This mini report describes our convention activities at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.
We were not planning to attend this event. We live in Houston and have the Johnson Space Center, Astroworld, the Astrodome, etc., so why would we drive across the country to see the same old stuff? Besides, we were going to TAG and wanted to do cave-related stuff. But, we had spent all our money getting into the convention. Since I could entertain the whole family without spending anymore money, I decided to add this to our agenda at the last minute. http://www.spacecamp.com/museum/exhibits/mu_pdisplay.php Surprisingly to me, this was an awesome event. This museum was worth the drive from Houston. The person who put this event together deserves an NSS award. We were also surprised by the food at this event. We had unfortunately eaten dinner beforehand. I rode the SpaceShot ride at least 6 times, ( 3 times in a row ) This is an great ride, as good as anything we have in Texas. I would have ridden it some more, but the rain made it less enjoyable. I also rode the Accelarator, and was unable to open my eyes during the entire ride. I could not have ridden that one again, as there was a churning sensation in my stomach. The museum exhibits were very interesting. I had no idea that Huntsville played a role in the space industry. It was great having the whole musuem to just the cavers. We could walk around and mingle with cavers and take pictures and it was lots of fun. I wished we had got there sooner, as we missed the IMAX, and the outdoor exhibits like the space shuttle and the Blackbird and it started to rain in the end. Our baby, who some know by her nickname Cavepearl, also enjoyed the museum and meeting all the cavers from across the country. I think the Apollo capsule was her favorite exhibit. We were among the last cavers to leave the museum. We look forward to going there again someday when the baby is old enough to understand the exhibits. David Locklear
