David and Others,
I will commit to come out and work the HF rig for a couple of hours... The last few years it has been a little "N5POB and a lot of August K5HCT Show" and that gets old for both me and him, I am glad to hear that others are getting involved and are excited about it. It can and is a lot of fun when you have a group effort.
I may or may not be able to set up and take down. Too far out to forecast.
I have a question though about what call sign will be used? Will it be W5MAF?, which is currently assigned to Les Blalock N5KOA as a Trustee for the West Texas Skywarn Association. Has he been asked? As a courtesy he should be notified as it is his license on the line if someone violates the rules and a heaven forbid a citation should be issued by the FCC. Hopefully with competent control operators that won't be an issue. I certainly don't mind being the control operator while I am there, which would give everyone the Extra Class Portion of the band privileges.
I say take lots of pictures and show the others what they missed.
Make sure there is coffee and donuts and it will be okay.

MY 2 cents worth...Pay me later.

Gentlemen,

We should all be on the same page for this; so, here is what I have so far. A younger ham in Hobbs has acquired a tower trailer and is setting it up for emcomm use. He is excited and planning on bringing it over to try out; and, hopes to have a few other operators come with him. A few of the younger hams in Big Spring are planning on coming to help as well. I am putting together an OCF dipole for 80 through 10. It will be set up with poles to get it up at 20 feet and I have 125' of feed line for it. To make this fun, I thought we could invite anyone with a portable hf antenna they would like to set up to bring it. We can swap them out on the feed line and see how they work. I thought we might want to keep the rig as simple as possible -- maybe, a simple portable radio and modest turner.

I have not had much response from Midland and Odessa. I haven't pushed yet other than the announcement by email and on the net. I will start trying to get commitments on the net. This week wasn't good due to link conditions. Hopefully those will be worked out soon.

That is my input at this point. It is probably time to open the conversation and my opinion is worth what you paid for it.

David KF5WDJ

Meeting announcement

This coming Monday, November 10, 7:30pm

The next scheduled meeting for November will be held at the National Weather Service on Highway 80 between the airport and the Airpark Mobile home park. This should be convenient for Odessa as well as Midland Hams. As promised, a new Baofeng dual band handy talkie will be the door prize, and we will be given a tour of the newly remodeled facility. There will also be an announcement about the Weather Service Ham Radio Appreciation Day coming up in early December, and we will have a short discussion about Hamfest.

_+_+_+_+_+

The Christmas party on Tuesday, December 9^th will serve as our December meeting. The time is 6:30 to 8pm and the location is KD's BBQ on East Florida Street (Hwy 158) near the I-20 overpass. Our last handy talkie will be given away along with other door prizes, so be sure to attend. We will also take this time to recognize members of the club for their service.

Until then, best 73,

Steve K5RS
