(August 6th 2PM to 2AM) The Pond Party is our big event of the year, featuring swimming, hot tub, sauna, bring your own meat BBQ/covered dish supper, keg of beer, and camping if you wish. There will be three grills to cook your meat on, and please bring a dish to share. We will try to serve dinner at 6:00. Please park along our lanes, as parking on the road invites crashers, and risks your car. Look for the Oztotl (Aztec Glyph) at the gate. You may be wondering, why August 6th. It's for warmer water and less chance of rain. The NSS has been in a rut of starting the convention one week after 4th of July weekend, which eats three weekends out of July. This July is the third year in a row of this. I like to give people 5 or 6 weeks notice on the date for the Pond Party, however last year the rains had not kicked in by the middle of May. I did not want to pick an August date at that point, because if the rains never did start, the pond might be six inches down by August. Therefore I picked June 20th. The rains of course did come. It rained so much on Memorial Day that our first afternoon swim had eighteen inches of brown water going over the dam. At the June 20th Pond Party it drizzeled all day and poured rain at 6:00 PM when we were trying to serve dinner. The bad forcast kept at least a third of our guests home. The ones that did come found that we did have enough tarps up, and had a good time. This year the rains started erilier, the creek is flowing great, and i'm confident that the pond will be full on Aug 6th. You don't need to wait until August to come swimming. Come to the First Afternoon Swim in Memorial day. Look fore more events in June, Like Sunday Swims, and maybe a Movie by the Pond.
