It's official, Texas Cavers Reunion has its venue. The water is once again flowing over the lower retention dam into Paradise Canyon park, and hopefully will continue to do so through October 13 to October 16, 2016. The corn is tall there outside of Castroville on the flowing Medina River, actually the water is currently OVER the retaining walls in Paradise Canyon park. There is now a playground and a beautiful new restroom and shower facility.
There is a theme for our doo-dah parade too. Several good ideas were put forth and in the end I required a secret vote from my consultants which ended in a three way tie requiring me to bring in my heavy hitter tie breaker: Magical Forest Creatures! The rains have made the woods and countryside very very happy and green and the magic is strong now. The gnomes, fairies, trolls and Hodags are proliferating and putting on their summer coats of algae and mosses and lichens. The unicorns, Pegasus and griffons were out grazing along the green riverfront under the sycamores and cypress today. I think I even saw a wampus cat frolicking with a zoat. Certainly Bigfoot lurks, and I swear I smelled a skunk-ape.
