I hope you can at least get a giggle out of my predicament

In 72 hours, I hope to be southbound heading in the direction of Ol' Mexico.
As I mentioned in my last post, I have tweaked my Sequoia, and spent
a lot of effort to get a permit.

I have now even posted a Craigslist ad:

https://houston.craigslist.org/rid/d/thanksgiving-rock-climbing/6392778041.html

I should not have any trouble getting off work. Being self-employed has
few perks,
especially, if your business has imploded and vaporized underneath you.
But one is you
can say "lets get the H*ll out of Dodge," when the sh*t hits the fan.

As of writing this, I don't have enough funds to drive across town. But
I have 4 clients
who are supposed to pay me enough to cover the expected trip expenses. If
they stand
me up, that will be a huge bummer. Even if they pay me, I still am not
convinced I
can pull this road-trip off. The only motivation I have to even get out
of bed at the moment, is that it
is a real pain to get a vehicle permit now, especially on a vehicle that
you owe $ 22,000 on.
All I can do is pray a large meteorite strikes my beloved Sequoia at this
point, and somebody
catches it with their GoPro.

Like previous holiday road-trip preparations, I have been daydreaming
trying to logically
justify to myself the desire to go on a fun adventure against the reality
of my physical condition ( being a lard-ass ),
and ability to recover from another potential car breakdown. I have
been to Bustamante and the caves there
a few times, so spending $ 300 or more to go there again is not really what
I prefer to do on this trip. [ Sidenote:
I can not remember if I have been in Palmito Cave since it has been
officially commercialized ]
Meaning, I would like to go see some new stuff and some fun stuff and for
me that involves
swimming in spring-fed water, good Huastecan food, fresh air, and just some
good outdoor vibes. The thought of going
caving just does not seem feasible at this stage of the trip preparations.
  Ridgewalking, maybe ?
Quasi-ridgewalking, more likely.

As for destinations, the original plan was to drop my estranged wife off at
her house south
of Monterrey and venture from there. But that seems unlikely as I am
writing this. I can't see any reason to drive
towards Tampico or south of Monterrey, or west of Saltillo, or west of
Monclova, or west of
Piedras Negras. I just do not see how I could go south of Monterrey
to places like
Potrero Redondo or Cascada del Chitipin or Canon Matacanes in this
particular trip due to
lack of time and funds. I am only saying that I am brainstorming ideas,
with the goal being most fun per dollar
spent. ( I know what you may be thinking, but that is unlikely to happen )

And to throw an enormous wrench into my road-trip plans, I have to drive to
Arlington before and after the
trip non-stop from Houston in order to take my daughter to see relatives.

Sometimes in life, you just have to say "ph*ck it," and surrender to the
realities. Meaning, it
will be a bummer to have to stay home. In theory, I could go somewhere
closer to Arlington, and just
blow off the effort and money spent getting a vehicle permit.
