Academy Store has a one-day sale today ( just 2 hours left ) on a tiny LED lantern branded by Nite-Ize for $ 30. I was drooling all over it.
I looked around the store for any thing I thought I needed for a road trip, and didn't buy anything. However, I did cut myself good enough to file a formal report and get them to put a band-aid on it. The store rack had a broken metal rusted rod sticking out horizontally from the wall in the walk-pathway nearly 8 inches. It is amazing all those kids running all over the store like it is the last day of the human race, and not one of them poked out their eye. David Locklear P.S. I have my Sequoia loaded down with: machete portable folding saw Automotive tool-bag ( cordura ) Winter clothes Summer clothes Snacks for 3 days ( that do not require cooking ) Large cot ( the creaky one that wakes people up ) Goretex bivy-sack Pillows and blankets and small mattress ( rolled-up ) 5 gallons of water 5 gallons of spare gas Excellent smartphone with The Super-Crappy T-Mobile service, ( meaning no service at all outside of town or in a building. ) Small cheapo ice-chest 2 Ammo-cans full of odds and ends One decent LED headlamp and AA batteries and a few tiny LED flashlights and AAA batteries. My wallet ( nearly empty now ) Passport Mexican car permit and Mexican insurance for 2 more days. 2-1/2 ton scissor-jack for changing a flat. One spare tire, with old but never used rubber ( street tread ). A good backpack ( I think it is a ladies Tioga ). My work boots ( lousy for hiking ) A lock-bar for the steering wheel ( can easily be removed with a hacksaw ) And a 300 pound out-of shape trip organizer who is slightly mentally-warped in a fun, but clumsy way. I could have easily thrown in a cable-ladder, but have not yet found my real hiking boots nor my sleeping bag nor rope or cave gear, although I did manage to find 2 expedition cave-packs I bought long ago for larger underground camping trips. One sadly never used. I did find my Coleman propane griddle, but did not see the point in packing all that. And I left my camp chair as it seemed to take up space that was unnecessary. If I took more stuff, then I would have to rig it to the trailer hitch or in a bag on the roof. I was too lazy to do all that. I found the locking biner to my frog-system. Some of this stuff I had not seen in almost 10 years, as it was buried 30 feet back in the rental unit. I doubt I could carry 4 cavers in my Sequoia with all this junk. I would have to weed out some things - probably my beloved creaky cot.
