Here is this month's winner of May Caving Video of the Month
https://youtu.be/NWAoArY8U6g On a different note, the depth of the main krater at Kilauea seems to be deeper this week - maybe 800 feet. I think there are several craters at Kilauea and the main one is officially called "Halema'uma'u" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halemaumau_Crater It has been interesting watching YouTube videos by several residents that are doing up-close reporting. I would love to be there watching "lava geysers." The major news channels are only concerned with what specifications of dress Princess Muckle of Wales is wearing. I hope none of you are interested in that b.s. ( My indian ancestors risked their lives to befriend and assist the puritanistic pilgrim invaders who were rebelling against their aristocratic masters and after victory, my ancestors were betrayed and deceived and marched to Oklahoma to their death. But the women-folk were forced to spawn Locklear-offspring, causing all sorts of dastardly drama. ) Now you know the real untold story of The American Revolution. On another topic, [ do not read this ] The horrific tragedy in the town of Sante Fe hits close to home. My daughter's school is only 24 miles away. I am certain some caver lives near there. We always see these acts of mayhem and anarchy in two-dimensions only and with no sound or vibration or physical pain and in places far away. We don't physically connect to it. It is impossible to fathom that it could happen near us. The repercussions of this type of carnage affect other aspects of our lives for years. Just like Dallas still deals with the JFK assasination. Also, I would bet that if you looked deep into your family tree that one of the victims was a distant cousin. We were not designed to cope with such tragedy, especially those who barely missed death. They and the loved ones of the victims will struggle with unbearable emotional pain for the remainder of their lives. Birthdays and anniversaries will pass and the Earth will not stop turning for even a second. Life will go on around them as if all is normal. It it definitely sad that we learned absolutely nothing from the attack at University of Texas, and all the rest of the hundreds of others that followed like Columbine, Sandy Hook, and Florida. We need to bring back the term "anarchist." and reinstate the pillory and the guillotine and the gulag and the stake. To add to the misery, the rising price of gas has wiped me out. I just parked my Sequoia and walked a mile each way to go eat lunch. I will be in a pickle by Tuesday, if I have a bad day on Monday. Anybody want to buy a beat-up Sequoia with 230,000 miles for $ 15,000 that gets 12 mpg. I am passed the imbecile-stage at this point. Need a new term. Dipsh*t was passed in 2014 after moron in 2013. I used up, dorkmeister, dumbph*ck, and the others in 2011 and 2012. Not being hard on myself - just facing reality. Life is about to get really hard. David Locklear Most likely retiring from speleospam in 2019
