Back in the 60's, and early 70's, numerous cavers had dirt-bikes and used
them in the backcountry.

I am not sure if it fell out of popularity, or that other types of off-road
vehicles
became more practical.

Get ready for the next generation of off-road fun:

I hope I live long enough to ride one of these off-road in a scenic place.

P.S.

My 2-wheel priority however, is to someday fix my big scooter ( 0.638
liter gas engine ).
One of my many setbacks in life ( way to many to list ), was parking it in
the garage
and forgetting about it. That was over 10 years ago. I only went on
one road-trip
to Del-Rio and back to Houston, but got up to 100 mph once. I was
disappointed
that it only got 52 mpg, and my Honda Fit at the time was getting 39 mpg.
Had gas
prices kept going up in 2008 like they appeared to be going, I could have
justified
the high cost of the maintenance. But at the time, my back was killing
me,
and riding the bike seemed to aggravate it. My back has not bothered me
in about
2 years, but my left knee and left ankle are in excruciating pain ( from a
1982 A&M Bonfire injury ).
I did put nearly 1,000 miles on it in Houston insane traffic and
accidentally laid it down once and fell
off of it once ( leaving the slope of the driveway ). I found riding a
two-wheeler in or near
Harris County, especially near Houston, to be very miserable experience.
