*A Tribute to Don Broussard*

David Honea

It has been an honor and privilege to be Don Broussard's friend for 65
years. During that time I came to know Don very well through times of both
adversity and success.

Don dedicated his entire adult life to caving and his commitment to those
endeavors was extraordinary. Although Don faced medical challenges that
would have daunted many, he not only overcame them but went on to succeed
in what is a very demanding realm of effort. His dedication to pushing the
boundaries of cave exploration was a primary force in his life, but his
indomitable will in the face of hardship was the power that carried him
forward through any obstacle. His will and focus were key components of
Don's personality, but at the heart of his being Don was a gentle soul and
a very kind and caring person.

Don gave freely of himself to help anyone in need. Many benefited from his
generosity and friendship. We can all share and honor his caving legacy.
The breadth and depth of his contributions are truly overwhelming.

During his career, Don never lost sight of his humanity and concern for
others. Those balancing principles guided Don throughout his life.
