I drive through several states for work every week for the last 7 years. I use a Garmin GPS because I like knowing at any time how much longer until I get to where I'm going. I can also keep all my waypoints (favorites) on the Garmin, and it doesn't need a cellular connection. But, I also have a 7-year-old spiral-bound road atlas of the U.S. in the car. If I need to see a map of a whole state at once, the road atlas is really MUCH, MUCH better than zooming out (and losing detail) and scrolling and scrolling on a tiny 5' or 6' screen.
