A “stash of cavers” because people and other cavers are especially
secretive. We keep our cave locations hidden in file drawers and we
don’t widely broadcast caving as a sport or speleology as a science
until this International Year of Caves and Karst. We stash ourselves
into crevices and passages to find out where these holes lead. So
that’s my noun for the day.

Mike,
We already have that for wolves and cigarettes. It should be
unique among plural nouns, and easy to remember for public
adoption. When we get enough suggestions, we'll take a poll among
the New Mexico and Texas cavers.

I think it depends on the group.
A group of expedition cavers would likely be a _column of
cavers_ as they have a purpose and a mission, well regimented
and disciplined. Marching off into the unknown karst for fame
and fortune.
A group of recreational cavers would more likely be a _giggle
of cavers_ as they're out to have fun and see what they will
see, looking forward to their apres caving party and drink.
Marching off to have a laid back adventure.
A group of spelunking cavers (boy scouts and other non-grotto
affiliated spelunkers) would more likely be a _clunk of
cavers_ as they may leave trash and other mementos of their
adventures. These folks have no idea what they're marching
off to.
Jerry.

What do you call a collection of cavers? There are gaggles
of geese, pods of whales and murders of crows. What term
would do justice to the special nature of cavers? I once
suggested a *column of cavers*, as cave teams usually go
single-file when traversing (especially well protected) cave
passages. Does anyone have a better idea?
