Joris, probably I did not describe the problem precisely.
TexMacs does enters math mode, however, many things are missing.
First, there is no math toolbar.
Second, the usual keybindings are not there, e.g., if I press 'L' followed
by '_' followed by '1' I get "L_1" which is obviously not what I expect.
