OK, let us try switching to GIT then. There are a few requirements:

  1) Please make sure that we still have a browsable version of the sources
     available at Savannah when using GIT.

  2) Someone should rewrite the instructions on how to download
     the current development version and collaborate.

Norbert, would you be willing to do these things and
restore the data in collaboration with the Savannah hackers?

Please get an ID on Savannah too, so that I can add you to the project.
