Dear Norbert,
I had proposed something like this almost one year ago and have been using
it ever since. I agree with you: it works extremely well for such a simple
patch.
The only problem I have found so far is when you overwrite the selection and
immediatly apply the tab modifier on the first character you enter : it
restores the selection that had been deleted before applying the tab
modification. I was planning to look into this when I get some time.
