As far I understand, iconv_open, could have failed because iconv is unable to convert from ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8. However, iconv --list contains these two charset. Can you tell me if the command 'echo test me hé hé | iconv -f ISO-8859-1 -t UTF-8' works ? (don't worry about é ...)
