Dear all,
I wrote an account of my current understanding of handling of fonts in TeXmacs
(at the C++ level). You can find it here:

https://texmacs.github.io/notes/docs/font-mechanics.html

It documents the various font classes and the resolution of TeXmacs entities
into glyphs, according to my understanding.

I would like to write some more about the Scheme interface to the font
database, but at the moment I think I need more study to do this.

I plan another article on math typesetting. This is some preparatory work I’m
doing before trying to complete the support of OpenType math fonts and other
enhancements in this direction (e.g. I would like to be able to use “old
numerals” when available in font files).

It seems that there is now a wide selection of OpenType fonts, e.g. a
relatively long and detailed list is here:
https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/425098/which-opentype-math-fonts-are-available
would be great if we will be able to use most of them. I’ve initiated some work
in this direction a couple of years ago and recently Ke Shi has done some more
work and integration in Mogan for OSPP 2024. However still some more work and
consolidation is needed before we can reliable use most of the OpenType math
fonts without hard-coded support in the C++ code.

Best
Max
