Percentage of Christians in India Did Not Grow In the 1990s

DELHI, INDIA, December 21, 2008: (HPI note: When previously announced, this
article had the title "Number of Christians in India Did Not Grow In the
1990s", which is incorrect. The minority was stable as a percentage of the
total population.)
Answering a written question resulting from a legal inquiry, Union Minority
Affairs Minister Shri A.R.Antulay stated that the percentage of Christians
in the population of India was 2.342% in 1991 and 2.341% in 2001. Another
country-wide census is scheduled for 2011.
