Windows 7 beta ISO leaked to internet,

In case you hadn't heard: delicious, beautiful, mind-bending Windows
7<http://www.engadget.com/tag/Windows7/>-- apparently slated for a
beta
release in
January<http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/03/microsoft-windows-7-beta-due-out-in-january-2009/>--
has leaked and is now available. That is, if you're willing to, you
know,
break the law and download the ISO that's floating around on BitTorrent
trackers all over the place. The good news here is that the leak is
apparently a quite stable, newer beta version (build 7000) than previously
spied (6801). We wouldn't know, of course (we try to walk the straight and
narrow), but let us know if you've got your hands on it... how's it treating
you?

Greenshot Captures and Annotes Screenshots [Featured Windows
Download]<http://feeds.gawker.com/%7Er/lifehacker/full/%7E3/cUoa3_WEPlo/greenshot-captures-and-annotes-screenshots>
via Lifehacker <http://lifehacker.com/> by Jason Fitzpatrick on 28/12/08

Windows only: Greenshot is a lightweight, open source, and portable
screen-capture tool.

The executable and supporting .dll files weigh in at 464KB, making Greenshot
a rather lightweight tool and well suited for a flash-drive toolkit. You can
generate screen captures by a variety of methods including using the
print-screen button as a hot key and activating the main menu from the
system tray where you can capture by region, freehand cropping, etc.
Greenshot can be set to send your crops directly to a printer, open for
editing, or to be saved. The file naming convention is *
userspecifiedword_YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS*, typical for screen-capture tools and
entirely practical. Once you have captured an image you can add text and
shapes such as arrows to draw attention or a bright red box to isolate. One
curiously lacking feature is the ability to crop after the initial capture.
You can use the freehand-capture tool to carefully grab the area you want
when getting the initial capture, but once you are in the actual editing
stage there appears to be no method to crop. For another excellent, free,
and portable screen-capture tool check out FastStone
Capture<http://lifehacker.com/379117/take-and-edit-screenshots-with-faststone-capture>.
Greenshot is open source, Windows only.*Thanks Ryan!*

[image: Windows 7] *So what is Windows 7?*

*It's the next version of Windows for PCs, and it's the result of working
hand-in-hand with our partners and with people who use Windows in the real
world every day. We're paying particular attention to the things they're
telling us are important to them and will make their PCs work the way they
want them to—things like enhanced reliability, responsiveness, and faster
boot and shut-down. We're also trying to make their everyday tasks easier,
like connecting and syncing devices, browsing the web, and managing a home
network.*

*Of course, we're also working on new capabilities, so people will be able
to do things with Windows 7 that were difficult (or perhaps impossible) to
do with PCs before. Finally, we're working hard to ensure that Windows 7
will run on any PC and work with any program that works today with Windows
Vista, so upgrading from Windows Vista will be easy.*

*We hope this helps you find what you're looking for. Please check back
soon.*
