If my memory is not wrong budhi kunderan was serving indian railways and chief selector Lala amaranath selected him for test squad. In those days ala. india radio was only souece for cricket lovers. I still remember vividly i was filling air in my cycle and listening commentory in transistor india was batting against australia. budhi kunderam opened the innings for india and typhhon alan davidson opened the bowling. no commentary could be heard because of roar from the crowd. next over we understood kunderan hammered 14 runs in first over he faced as opener from most feared bowler of the world. besides wicket keeper he was a good fielder and pace bowler.In kanpur test he felled in the eyes of selector because of his fearless blunt statements. thus the blue eyed boy of indian cricket fell from grace of selectors. In those days selectors were dictator later on stung with regional politics. The real credit for todays cricket glory goes to nawab of pataudi jr. who emphasised on fielding now coming to kunderam
When he left India in 1970 Kunderan made some critical remarks about the Indian Cricket Board, complaining that players were made to feel they existed at the mercy of officials. His comments were not forgotten, and although he sent the Board a fulsome apology he was not invited to join other former Indian cricketers at the Golden Jubilee Test against England at Bombay in February 1980. His peers, however, took a more favourable view. Chandu Borde described Kunderan as "a loveable character with a happy-go-lucky approach to the game". Budhi Kunderan, who had been suffering from lung cancer, died on June 23. He is survived by his wife Linda, whom he married in 1969, and by their two sons.
