New Delhi: Does the crowd at Ramlilas bother you? You can watch the entire
show online from this year. At least two big Ramlila committees have decided
to upload the daily episodes on their websites.
For the first time, Luv Kush Ramlila Committee and Nav Shri Dharmik
Leela Committee will record their Ramlila performances daily and put the
videos online to reach out to people in the country and abroad.
According to the organisers at Lav Kush Ramlila, the new approach will
help them in connecting with the NRI population and attract corporate
sponsorships.
Above all, it’s an attempt to attract the younger generation, claim the
organisers. ‘‘The youngsters today are a busy lot. Add to it the fear of
getting swine flu and the threat of terrorist attacks, we do not think we
will get the desired attendance. Hence, we decided to go online,’’ said one
of them.
Said Arjun Kumar, secretary of the Lav Kush Samiti, ‘‘We have tied up
with two leading telecom companies for technical support. You just need to
go towww.lavkush.com between Sept 18 and September 29. Besides video streams
and pictures, a live telecast will be available from 8 pm to 11 pm.’’
Brijmohan Sharma of Nav Shri Dharmik Leela Committee has a similar plan.
‘‘The performance on the stage will be recorded on video and put on our
website —navshridharmik.com — for all to see. We want even those staying
abroad to enjoy the Ramlila this time,’’ he said.
In fact, to reach out to people in the Walled City better, the committee
is also initiating an sms service from this year. The idea is to keep the
residents in nearby areas updated with the daily developments in the story
of Lord Ram. Sharma said, ‘‘We have prepared a database of people in areas
like Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar, Turkman Gate, Hauz Kazi, Kashmere Gate,
Civil Lines.’’
