>>>Thesad demise of our daughter and the story behind it
>
>In April my wife took our loving and beautiful daughter aged sixteen to a
>dertematologist Dr.Ragunandan Torsekar , visiting doctor in Wochardt.  After
>seeing her he gave some cream and medicines and told to have a blood test and
>come for re check up.  The test was done in May 2009 and my wife took my
>daughter to him on 28 July 2009for further reference.  The Complete Blood
>count (CBC) report was excellant and only the MCH , was 26.9 against the range
>of 27 to 32.  He gave her the following medicines
>
>Tab DAPSONE (100 MG) , and Tab Clofosin (50) to be taken daily and Cap R Cin
>(600 mg) to be taken once in a month.  The tablets are to be taken for six
>months.  When asked about the reason by my wife , he told that the medicine is
>for vitamin deficiency.  No test was done for skin nor biopsy.
>
>She took the medicine for almost 21 days.  She got her first fever around 12th
>August and we took her to our regular physician fearing that this may be swine
>flu.  The Doctor ruled swine flu and gave tab Leeact , which is for a viral
>fever.  She was alright within three days and fine..  The school was closed
>for one week up to 19th and reopened on 20th Aug..  She went to school on 20th
>and had her dinner in the night and at 10 PMshe developed fever which was 103
>and we gave her crocin to tide over the night.  Next day morning again the
>fever was not reduced and was around 104.  We called our regular doctor at
>Airoli and he told to us to do Vidal test and Malaria to rule out the
>possiblity and was expected to come around 11 AM. As her condition was not
>good , we decided to take her to WochardtHospitalwith the logo of world class
>professional tratment with care at Mulund under OPD.  She was shown to one
>Dr.Sushma Malpani , MD in General Medicine
at Wochardt on 21 August 2009 and she told that there is no symtom of swine
flu and told  gave us Azithral , Dolo and Rantac D tablets. She advised CBC and
urine test which came did not show any symtom.
>The fever was unabated and again we asked over phone on 22 August and was told
>to do test CBC , blood culture and liver profile.  The SGOT and SGPT was 245
>and 214 against the maximum of 59 and 72 respectively.  The fever was not
>reduced and we showed her on the 22nd itself in her clinic at Airoli and she
>gave her Tab;Dolo , Zathrin , Rantac-D , Taxim , Clokit and Ondem suspecting
>the hepatetic induced malaria.  The medicines were also given and the fever
>did not come down.  On 23 Aug. we again consulted her over phone and told that
>in case fever is not coming down come to WochartdtHospitalfor admission.
>Accordingly in the evening of 23 Aug , we took over hale and healthy daughter
>to Wochardt where she tested in the Casualty and admitted her.  The Chest X
>ray was done.  My wife requested Dr.Sushma Malpani to consult
>Gastroentrologist as there was abnormality in liver profile and my mother died
>six months back because of liver faliure , for which there was no action from
>Dr.Sushma Malpani.  There were some rashes in my daughter's face which we told
>her and she told that there is nothing.
>24 Aug:  Dr.Sushma Malpani , came and saw some rashes in the stomach and
>diagnosed it as Gernan Measels without testing and started medication and
>advised Test for Rubella a medical term for German measels.  The result came
>negative on the next day.  By that time some medicine had gone and the liver
>got affected.  The liver profile was done and the SGOT and SGPT had done up to
>382 and 444.  We again requested her to call Gastroentrologist because of
>abnormality of liver whieh she told thatI am not bothered about Liver but
>bothered Fever..
>
>25 Aug:Dr.Sushma Malpani came and saw her and found that the rashes were all
>over the body of my daughter and told that this looks like Liptospirosis and
>gave her Tab Doxi a secondary medicine for Lipto without doing any test and
>the test was done on that day which came negative next day.  However , the
>medicine was given which again affected Lever.  The Chest Xray report also
>came late and there was no abnormality in the chest.
>
>26 Aug:  Again Dr.Sushma Malpani came and told that we will do Hepatitis A , B
>C , Dengue and all came negative next day..By that time she advised the visit
>of Chest Specialist Dr.Rupwate who came and diagnosed her with TB and advised
>medicine for nine months without doing any test and just by X ray and abdomen
>Ultra sonic report.  The Liver function test was done on 26th which showed
>SGOP and SGPT as 888 and 1054 and again we requested Dr.Sushma Malpani to call
>Gastroentrologist and she repeated her same statement of I am not bothered
>about Liver but bothered Fever. She further added that I would prefer to treat
>a chest patient rather than this difficult case of my daughter.
>27 Aug:  Dr.Rupwate came and told that the cause of fever is TB and medication
>is being started to day and there would be no problem.  When asked about the
>abnormality of liver we were told there would be no problem and would be
>alright.  Dr.Sushma Malpani came and told that she had to respect her Senior
>though the conclusive test for TB is Sputum test and Biopsy.  We requested
>that atleast sputum test be done so that TB can be confirmed.  Montoe test was
>given on 27 Aug for TB and sputum test was also done.  The result came
>negative in both the tests on 29 and 28th respectively.  The TB medicines were
>started without clear confirmation of TB and my lovely daughter was
>administered with Septromicine injections and Ithambutal for TB was given.
>The fever never came down.
>
>28 Aug:  We were eagerly awaiting for Dr.Rupwate but he did not turn to our
>room though visited the floor.  When we asked about the fever , he told
>smiling wryly , how can you expect that the fever will come within a day it
>will be there for 4 to 6 weeks as the treatment for TB itself takes 9 months
>and aksed to come and meet him with the Chest X ray after three months.  As
>the fever was not going down , we cried to Dr.Dhiren Pipalia , an eminent
>Gastro attached to Wochardt on the previous day in the night over phone and
>was readily agreed to come see and follow the hospital procedure calling him
>through Hospital.  We told this over phone Dr..Sushma Malpani and cried and
>requested to call Dr.Dhiren Pipalia and this was done through Hospital.  Dr.
>Dhiren Pipalia visited on28th and by seeing her told that the rashes were drug
>induced and there is no question of TB.  He called in front of me Dr.Rupwate
>and told that there is no TB and asked his
consent to stop TB medicine as he discussed Dr.Rajat , in charge of CT Scan
and concluded there is no TB.  After that Dr.Rupwate came to our room and told
that there is no TB and is stopping the medicine and did not even expressed his
regret for the wrong medication.  Dr Sushma Malpani told that Dr.Dhiren Pipalia
is a senior doctor and how can I call him and because of our request he came.
She again added that I would prefer to treat a chest patient rather than this
difficult case of my daughter.
>With disgust we told Dr..Chandrasekar that Dr.Sushma Malpani may be changed as
>we were not happy with her way treatment and gave it in writing that some
>other good doctor may be put for my daughtger's treatment.  He suggested some
>names and I put Dr.Anita Mathew Davis , an MD specialised in Infecticious
>diseases and visited in the night and told that the fever and rashes were drug
>induced.  Dr. Dhiren Pipalia also advised that Dermatologist may be asked to
>see my daughter.  The SGOT and SGPT had gone up to 1039 and 1477 which was not
>fully revealed by Dr.Sushma Malpani and when enquired she told it increased
>without giving the numbers.
>
>29 Aug:  The Dermatologist Dr.Raghnandan Torsekar came and saw her.  He
>confirmed my wife that the rashes were drug induced.  When my wife told that
>you treated her one month back he made a casual statement that whether the
>drugs I gave caused some effects and did not stop and went away without
>enquiring the medicines given to understand that the effect of the medicines
>he had given. My daughter was under treatement of Dr.Anita Mathews who started
>observing her very closely and even asked each and every small thing.
>
>30 Aug:  The fever did not come down and her blood clotting was not occuring
>becasue of liver disfunction and her food intake was also reduced.  As the
>reports of the tests were awaited my daughter continued in the same state of
>fever.
>
>31 Aug:  Her condition worsened and her face was swollen like a ballon which
>no parents would ever like to see and we started crying to doctors.  By that
>time her SGOT and SGPT had gone to unimaginable limit of 1557 and 1256 and she
>was immediately taken to ICCU on the advice of Dr.Amey Medhekar who is
>associated with Dr.Anita Mathews.  By that time Dr.Sushma Malpani was coming
>and consoling us saying that there is nothing could be found out.  In the
>evening my wife finding the reminder in the Cell phone for the monthly
>medicing of R-Cin prescribed by Dr.Torsekar , thought whether this was the
>cause and ran to home and brought the prescriptions and showed to Dr.Anita
>Mathews who was shocked to see the medicine and said this is the reason for
>the high fever and rashes.  Immediately , she ordered for stoppage of all
>further tests and planned to give Streoids which would control the disease.
>She told that the medicines are for Leprosy and whether we
were told about this.  We informed that this was not done and no test or
biopsy of the skin was done further we told that she was not even touched by
Dr.Toresekar except seeing through magnifying glass.
>
>1 September:  My duaghter was given streoids and she started responding and
>the fever stopped and we thought happily that she is coming out.  Dr.Torsekar
>visited my daughter in the the evening and when asked by my wife why he did
>not inform the Disease or the effects of medicine , he told that as she was
>her mother who would not tolerate he did not inform and regarding effects he
>told that this the second case he is seeing in his career having such type of
>effect. We were surprised that who should know the disease and side effects
>than the parents. My wife controlled her anger against Dr.Torsekar as our
>primary aim was to bring our daughter back.  He did not show any regret nor
>bothered about the state of the child and walked off.
>
>2 Sep: Our daughter's position was somewhat improved and the SGOT and SGPT
>started coming down.  We were eagerly hoping that she will come back.
>
>3 Sep:  Our daughter showed some restlessness from the afternoon and we were
>told that since the liver was not functioning , the ammonia is released and
>affecting the brain and was the cause for restlessness and by night she was
>put under mask and her hands were tied.  She started telling both of to go
>away and crying profusely.
>
>4 Sep:  Dr. Anita Mathews told there is need to put her under ventilator since
>there is some problem with her lungs and was under ventilator..  Her SGOT and
>SGPT was coming down.
>
>5 Sep:  Her lung's position some what improved but her condition was critical
>since her kidndy which was functioning very well  started failing and the
>Doctors told that they want to put her under dialysis.
>
>6 Sep:  She was put under dialysis and the BP rate got improved by the evening
>and we hoped everything would be alright.
>
>7 Sep:  Her BP never improved and she passed away around 3.30 after suffering
>a continuous puncturing of her body for almost 100 tests over a period of 16
>days for no fault of her.
>
>Tab Dapsone given by Dermatologist Dr.Ragunandan Torsekar for skin treatment
>should not be given without testing and effect should be seen within 7 days
>from the date of intake as per reports available from the net..  This was not
>done at all by Dr.Ragunandan Torsekar which is against the medical ethics.
>
>The sad state of affairs by Dr.Raghunandan Torsekar , the Dermatologist ,
>Dr.Sushma Malpani , the doctor who treated her and Dr.Rupwate who diagnosed TB
>which was not there and gave a very casual reply for the abnormality of Liver
>had taken away the life our Angel Saranya and also took our lives as we are
>only with bodies without anything left in the world. This is what a World
>Class professional treatment with care my daughter received.
>
>The Important thing I would like to tell every body is
>
>Pl. keep the medical histroy of your kids and also yours so that nothing of
>such sad event happen in your life.
>
>Ask the doctors why they are giving the medicine , what are the side effects
>so as to save the precious life of our kids and ourselves.
>
>Highlight the high handedness of doctors who treat the patients recklessly.
>
>Kindly pray that our beloved daughter's soul , who had lot of dreams for her
>age and was so affectionate and loving and was loved by lot of people , may
>rest in pease
>
>I also thank to all my friends and relatives who had showed the concern and
>prayed for her recovery for their love and affection to us.  We could not
>forget your love and affection and also our angel Saranya.
>
>If you feel this is an atrocity meted to a kid , kindly bring it to all your
>friends and relatives which is my a sincere request from the bereaved father.
