What is the difference between working of the intellect and intuition ? Is intuition the God's voice speaking through somebody? Can we judge whether the talk or action of the person is the outcome of intuition or reason ? When the intuition is working there is no ego sense. But when the intelligence is working there is the presence of ego sense.
There was a discussion between Viswamitra and sage Vasishta. The discussion was whether power of austerities or power of the company of saints was greater ? Vasishta said that the power of company of saints were greater Viswamitra disagreed with him The matter was brought before Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu directed them to MahaSesha the big serpent on whose head this earthly globe is supposed to be resting This has some esoteric meaning. They say the center of gravity of the earth or the power that draws everything towards the earth and keeps the earth intact that centrifugal or cohesive force , is symbolised by Mahasesha, We are not concerned with it at present The sages went to Mahasesha and asked him which power was greater: company of saints or austerities Mahasesha said I have this heavy burden of the earth on my head If you will just lift it for a moment from my head I will be free to give you my the answer. At this Vasishta and Viswamitra looked at each other how best this problem could be solved Viswamitra suggested that he would apply the power that he had gained by his austerities and lift the earth. He tried but the earth did not move. He put all the strength he had gained by his tapasya but could not succeed Then Vasishta came forward and applying the strength which he had got by one minute of company of saints lifted the earth. One minute of satsanga had given him sufficient powerto lift the earth. Now Mahasesha said your questions are answered. Austerities will only make our ego stronger and increase our pride. But if we go to a saint we will become free from the ego sense by allowing our mind to be stilled by his presence , thereby gaining the most powerful force If we are to struggle ourselves we have to do so long and hard before the ego gets exhausted and admits that it cannot do anything By struggle alone we cannot attain God. We have to be Humble and then we get the power from God. The humblest one gets God. When the rain falls water collects in the valleys and not on the top of a hill. So all the virtues are in that person who is meek. Jesus said, Blessed are the persons who are meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Let us surrender ourselves to God and pray to him to come to our help so that we may be free from the clutches our lower nature. - Valambal
