*1966 By Col Raman Sahib......*

*During one of the Field Firing Exercises, we had a break of two days. My
friend & colleague, Capt Balwinder Singh suggested that we could spend the
time in his father's farm, near Hoshiarpur. When we reached the Bus Station
to catch a bus, Balwinder's schoolmate, Suresh, happened to meet us. He
looked an intelligent man, and said he has finished his MBA & was waiting to
join one of the leading Industries. Balwinder invited him also to join
us. We all reached the farm by the night.*
**
*Next day morning, Balwinder's Dad, took us around his farm. Since both
Suresh & I were city bred, the farm & the activities there were quite
exciting to watch. We saw a bull, which was harnessed to a pipe that in turn
was fixed to a big wooden cylinder, going round & round, crushing muster
seeds which were being poured into the cylinder. From a small out let at the
bottom, the muster oil was oozing out into a container. The Farm hand, who
was in charge of the operation, periodically came & poured the fresh muster
seeds and carried on with his other errands.*
**
*Suresh asked Balwinder's father. "Uncle, how is that the bull keeps on
walking without the farm hand coaxing it? What if it stops & takes rest? The
farm hand will never come to know & the production will stop"*
**
*The uncle replied, " you see the bell tied to the neck of the Bull? If it
stops walking, the bell will stop jingling. If the farm hand does not hear
the sound of the bell, he will immediately start chasing the Bull"*
**
*Suresh would not give up. "Okay Uncle. What if the Bull does not walk but
just keeps shaking its head, so that the bell keeps jingling ? The farm hand
will not come to know & there will be a loss in production". *
**
*The uncle was a bit irritated. He said, " That is why I did not educate the
Bull to become a MBA".*
