If fresh peas is used then it can be directly cooked.** * *INGREDIENTS * *Fresh Green Peas / Dry Green Peas / Pachai Pattani – 1 cup (If dry soaked overnight)** * *Grated coconut – 1 table spoon** * *Oil – 1 table spoon** * *Green chillies – 3-4 nos (To taste)** * *Grated ginger – 1 tsp** * *Salt – 1/2 tsp** * *Fresh curry leaves – 10-15 nos** * *Asafoetida – 1/2 tsp (perungayam / hing)** * *PROCEDURE * *- Soak the peas for about 7 to 8 hours.** * *- Pressure cook ( just leave 1 whistle and switch off the stove) adding enough salt and water . As I already mentioned in kondaikadalai sundal for cooking any pulses and legumes it should be fully immersed in water. Drain the excess water. Now the cooked peas is ready.** * *For Neivedyam purpose * *- Add 1 table spoon of oil to the pan. Allow the mustard seeds to splutter. Add the green chillies, grated ginger and curry leaves and 1/2 tsp of hing.** * *-Then add the cooked peas and season it for 5 minutes then add the freshly grated coconut. Season it for 2 more minutes.** * *Neivedyam sundal is ready.** * *If the sundal has to be stored for more than 5 hours, then after the mustard seeds splutter, add the coconut along with green chillies and curry leaves. Season it for 2 to 3 minutes so that water in the coconut dries up , then add the cookded peas.** * ---- *http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VtnDQjE3vs* Method 2 ( This method can be used for Chana dhal(Kadala parupu- split chickpeas), Split Moong Dhal (Payatham parupu) and Kidney beans( Rajma) and Black eye peas(karamani) *Ingredients:* · Legume of interest- 1cup. · Salt-to taste. · Turmeric powder- a pinch. · Coconut scrapes- 2tsp. *For Seasoning:* · Oil- 1tsp. · Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp. · Urad dhal- 1/2 tsp. · Curry leaves- 1 arc. · Red chillies-3. · Asafoetida- a pinch. *Method:* · Rajma soaked in water for 10-12 hours. Every female is respected as the embodiment of the great mother. Let us pay respect to that motherhood. There is nothing in this wolrld more sublime that the love of the mother. श्री मात्रे नमः śrī mātre namaḥ *by K V ANanthanarayanan* --- Wish you all a very Happy Navaratri: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7-dtz8Buqo&feature=related by *Parasuraman* --- Navarathri Kolu For arranging the kolu there is an order in placing the bommais.. In olden days we were all staying in joint families with many members in each house.. The elders used to guide the young people in many things which they were not aware.. Now we are all having nuclear family with husband, wife and one or two children.. But the practice of keeping kolu is not discontinued once it is started.. Even if you are unable to keep the regular kolu for some reasons, you must keep the Marappachis in the swami padi or pooja room during Navarathri.. Kolu: The kolu should consist of odd number of steps like five, seven, nine or eleven .. The top most shelf is for Gods only like Ganesha, Vishnu, Shiva, Saraswathy, Lakshmi, Durga, Subramanian, Sastha, etc. If all of them cannot be accommodated in one step, they can be kept in the next step.. Then the Avatharams of Gods like Dasavatharam, Ashtalakshmis, Rama- Sita-Lakshmana-Hanuman or Krishnan-Rukmini-Sathyabhama, etc.. Either in the center of kolu or in the bottom most step the Marappachchi jodi is kept.. Marappachchis are a must for kolu.. Then great people like Buddha,Mahatma Gandhi, Vivekanandan, Ramakrishna Paramahamsar etc. are to kept.. Then comes people engaged in different professions like goldsmith, teacher, other craftmen, provision store keeper, Jawan, agricultural worker etc. are kept.. Here the chettiar bommai is very important as it will bring aishwaryam to the family.. Then comes the children playing, school going boys, girls etc.. After completing Gods, Avatharams, men and women, items like birds and animals are to be kept followed by bommai of non- living things like fruits, vegetables, flowers, ball, etc are kept.. In the first step in the centre Kalasam is kept..On the floor in front of kolu, train, water fountain or some games are kept.. In front of the kolu, books, musical instruments, other work related items are kept and worshipped on Ayudha pooja.. Daily Kolam (Rangoli) should be put and lamps are lighted in front of kolu.. Every day pooja with neivedhyam is done and in the end aarthi is to taken.. On Vijayadasami day in the evening, the marappachis are kept in sleeping position from the regular standing posture.. After Navarathri, the kolu is dismantled on a convenient day except Tuesday or Saturday.. *P.S.Krishnan* ----- ************************************************************ Know about *Kerala Iyers Trust* @ www.KeralaIyers.com/kit.html <http://www.keralaiyers.com/kit.html> ************************************************************* __._,_.___ Reply to sender<http://mc/[email protected]&subject=Navarathri%20Nuggets>| Reply to group<http://mc/[email protected]&subject=Navarathri%20Nuggets>| Reply via web post<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GULFPattars/post;_ylc=X3oDMTJwdTU2c2lxBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE0BGdycElkAzEyMTczMjQzBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTY2NjAxNARtc2dJZAM0MjUEc2VjA2Z0cgRzbGsDcnBseQRzdGltZQMxMjg3MjIwODE1?act=reply&messageNum=425>| Start a New Topic<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GULFPattars/post;_ylc=X3oDMTJmZGpuYzhyBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE0BGdycElkAzEyMTczMjQzBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTY2NjAxNARzZWMDZnRyBHNsawNudHBjBHN0aW1lAzEyODcyMjA4MTU-> Messages in this topic<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GULFPattars/message/425;_ylc=X3oDMTMzOWNuN3IwBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE0BGdycElkAzEyMTczMjQzBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTY2NjAxNARtc2dJZAM0MjUEc2VjA2Z0cgRzbGsDdnRwYwRzdGltZQMxMjg3MjIwODE1BHRwY0lkAzQyNQ-->( 1) Recent Activity: - New Members<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GULFPattars/members;_ylc=X3oDMTJnNXU5NmpkBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE0BGdycElkAzEyMTczMjQzBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTY2NjAxNARzZWMDdnRsBHNsawN2bWJycwRzdGltZQMxMjg3MjIwODE1?o=6> 1 Visit Your Group<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GULFPattars;_ylc=X3oDMTJmYmZvbmdtBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE0BGdycElkAzEyMTczMjQzBGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTY2NjAxNARzZWMDdnRsBHNsawN2Z2hwBHN0aW1lAzEyODcyMjA4MTU-> MARKETPLACE Hobbies & Activities Zone: Find others who share your passions!
