On this memorable day I send you my best wishes for the Baisakhi, Bihu, Puthanadu
Baisakhi usually falls on 13 April. Once in 36 years, however, it is celebrated on 14 April. It marks the entry of the sun into Mesh Rashi. The day is celebrated as 'Rongal Bihu' in Assam, Naba Barsha in Bengal and Tripura, Vaishakha in Bihar, Pooram Vishu in Kerala, Maha Vishu Sankranti in Odisha, Puthandu in Tamil Nadu, Bikhu in Uttarakhand and of course Baisakhi in Punjab. Apart from being the harvest festival celebrated with dancing of the Bhangra and Gidda, Baisakhi marks the start of the Hindu New Year. It is said that it was on this day, many thousand years ago, that the Goddess Ganga, descended to the earth. It is on this day that Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment as well as Nirvana. It is on this day in 1699 that Guru Gobind Singh gave Amrit to the Panj Pyaras and laid down the foundation of the Panth Khalsa. It is also on this day in 1875 that Swami Dayanand Saraswati founded the Arya Samaj. The day is thus important for Buddhists, Hindus and Sikhs alike. -- With best wishes S Chander -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Thatha_Patty" group.
