*Why do clocks run Clockwise?*

*Mechanical clocks were invented in the northern hemisphere by inventors
who were trying to make models of the sun's movement in the sky.*

*To watch the sun from the northern hemisphere, you have to face south.
Then the sun will rise on your left and pass over your head to set on your
right. Since the hour hand on the clock was made to follow the sun's motion
through the sky, it moves from left to right over the top of the clock -
clockwise. The hands are actually modeled after the shadow on a sundial**.*

*Why do golf balls have dimples?*

*So that they look cute? NO!*

*Because the dimples maximize the distance golf balls travel. Dimpled balls
travel up to four times farther than smooth-surfaced golf balls.*

*In the early days of golf, smooth-surfaced balls were used until golfers
discovered that old, bumpy balls traveled longer distances. The science of
aerodynamics helps explain the dimpled phenomenon. The dimples reduce the
drag on a golf ball by redirecting more air pressure behind the golf ball
rather than in front of it. The higher levels of pressure behind the golf
balls force them to go far distances. *

*The dimples change the levels of pressure by bringing the main air stream
very close to the surface of the golf ball. The dimples, or "turbulators,"
increase the turbulence in the layer of air located next to the surface of
the ball. This high-speed air stream near the ball increases the amount of
pressure behind the ball-thereby forcing the ball to travel farther.*

*Why do doughnuts have holes?*

*The question as to why doughnuts have holes has been raised by dozens of
bakers over the years, but most agree that the answer to this sticky
question lies in the fact that the interior of these fried cakes would not
cook fully without a hole in the center. In short, the consistency of a
doughnut lacking a hole would be, quite simply, doughy.*

*Why is a wedding ring always worn on the third finger of Left Hand?*

*Modern "authorities" on etiquette follow their predecessors in matrimonial
procedure, in urging that the wedding ring always be worn on the third
finger.*

*Before medical science discovered how the circulatory system functioned,
people believed that a vein of blood ran directly from the third finger on
the left hand to the heart.** Because of the hand-heart connection, they
chose the descriptive name **vena amori, Latin for the vein of love**, for
this particular vein.*

*Based upon this name, their contemporaries, purported experts in the field
of matrimonial etiquette, wrote that it would only be fitting that the
wedding ring be worn on this finger. By wearing the ring on the third
finger of the left hand, a married couple symbolically declares their
eternal love for each other.*

*If a statue in the park of a person on a horse(??)*

*has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle.*

*If the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died because of
wounds received in battle.*

*If the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural
causes *

*The origin of honeymoon.*

*It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month
after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all
the mead he could drink.*

*Mead is a honey beer*
* and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called
the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon.*

*Each king in a deck of playing cards*
* represents a great king from history:*

*Spades - --------King David Hearts - ---------Charlemagne
Clubs ------------Alexander, the Great Diamonds ----- Julius Caesar*
