The article is for awareness and education of air travellers as to why they feel tired, exhausted and dehydrated.
Being an ex-pilot and having undergone Aviation Medicine training, the article has covered certain aspect of problems the travellers will experience in a very simple language. The article does not discourage air travel but makes the passengers aware of problem. BTW, the cabin is only pressurized to simulate an elevation of 6,000 to 8,000 feet on modern jets and amount of air pumped inside doesn't result in quite as much oxygen as you'd normally get at much lower level, say at ground level (called as sea level). This results in dehydration. If you add little extra hard drinks, not only dehydration increases but also intoxication is faster. That is the reason why many western airlines serve very little hard drinks. With increase in long distance capable aircraft (like Delhi to Chicago non-stop) will have more adverse effect on air travellers.
