Topics discussed in the meeting were: 1. How to prevail on the government to expedite the appointment of Lokpal; 2. Asking the government why six crucial Anti-Corruption Bills are pending in the Lok Sabha; 3. Pressing the Narendra Modi Government for implementation of the recommendations of the Election Commission of India pending since 2004; 4. Pushing the Supreme Court order of 2006 on police reforms and the Model Police Act, 2006; 5. Demanding the implementation of Law Commission’s recommendations of 2009 on judicial reforms, and 6. Urging for an ordinance to declare all illicit/unaccounted money circulating in the country and that stashed abroad as national asset To push these issues, Anna Hazare is arriving in Delhi on 4 December. Other than Jethmalani and Upadhyay, he will meet Rashtriya Swabhiman Andolan head and former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh *pracharak* KN Govindacharya, Ekta Parishad head PV Rajagopal and former Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hegde. Rajagopal and Hegde were also part of the India against Corruption movement that had revived the call for a national ombudsman, legislation for which had been pending since 1967. It may be noted that Jethmalani, a crusader in the campaign to recover black money, does not agree with the UPA and NDA Governments’ approach of seeking information on Indians’ foreign bank accounts through the DTAA (Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement) route. The criminal lawyer is particularly peeved at Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj for not cooperating with him in the Rajya Sabha debates during the previous government when they were the Leaders of Opposition in the Upper and Lower Houses respectively. Jethmalani also holds the duo responsible for his expulsion from the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the meantime, Anna Hazare wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi, seeking his response on the issues above. In his reply, the prime minister has assured Hazare that the government is working on the necessary legislation and administrative reforms. However, ABHA, formed on 9 August, is not confident the laws will come through in the Winter Session of Parliament. The activists’ group will keep pressing for them. If negotiations with the government fail, Anna will sit on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on 21 March, 2015. -- With best wishes S Chander -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Thatha_Patty" group.
