*Ayyanar denotes the village diety around tirupattur and many temples were built by chola kings, while i **was on pilirimage to south. I started from srirangam to tirupattur brahma temple i have visited a ayyanar temple about 3 km from tirupattur. * *This ayyanar temple built in chola period was in depleted condition and was not having any puja for 1000 years although the temple was renovatedonly few year back but kumbhabhishekam ( consecration ) **has not taken yet . The god is offered used nirmalyam ( garland ) received from other temples.*
*The moolavar ( god ) Ayyanar flanked with goddess Poorna an Pushkala. in the inner parikrama you can see sapta matas.* ** * Ayyanar appears from the sanctum sanctorum with Rudrakshas adoring His neck, chest, wrists, shoulders and holding a bouquet in right hand and a palm leaf in the left hand. people beleive that if pen and note book is placed on the footand tke itas prasad it gives blessing to study well.* *On enquiry about the temple the temple narrated its story which i am sharing.* *the ayyanar temple was very powerful in cholan period. One night a couple with a child came to the temple for puja. after the puja when every one has gone the priest locked the temple and gone home. Later the couple came to the priests house and said that the kid has not come home may be in the temple. please open the temple and take out the kid.The priest said he cannot open the temple door, till morning as per convention of the temple. but the couple coxed and forced the priest to open the temple.* *on openening the temple door they saw the lord playing with the kid. On seeing that the door was opened and he is disturbed the lord got annoyed and tore the kid and threw around. the lady got annoyed and cursed , that no one will offer puja in the temple and the lord will be starving for prasad. The devotees got stared with this incidence and no puja were offered for 1000 years. the elder saints sat together and decided to do revive the puja in the temple. for that they have decided to put idols of purna pushkala along with the ayyanar idol, so theat ferorocity of ayyanar is subdued. all these work completed and the temple renovated a few years back but kumbabhishekam is yet to be done.
