17 (3). ABISHEKHA PANDIYAN. Valan’s selfless sacrifice did not go in waste. As blessed by Lord Siva the parts of his body turned into precious and rare gems.
His teeth became beautiful pearls; his blood became red carbuncle; his locks of hair became Vaidooryam (lapis lazuli); his strong bones became diamonds; the fat in his body became sardonyx; his palm became topaz; his large eyes became sapphires and his muscles became corals. The merchant went on to describe the gems, where they were found, their colors, varieties, types and the benefits of wearing them. Then he sat facing north. He did a special puja for those diamonds, gave them to the prince and blessed him. He told the ministers, “Make the new king a new crown with these diamonds and gems. Name him as Abishekha Pandian. His rule will be the golden period in the history of your country!” The ministers wished to pay the merchant the huge sum of money they owned him. To their utter surprise, He was seen entering the temple accompanied by Uma Devi! They realized that the merchant was none other than Lord Siva himself.They did vandanam and namaskaram to them. A new crown was made as ordered by Lord Siva. The prince as crowned as ordered by Lord Siva. His new name was Abisheka Pandian. He ruled his country very well.
