THE ARRIVAL OF THE OLD DEVOTEE. During the reign of Vikrama Paandian, there lived a brahmin couple named Viroopaaksha and Subhavratha. They observed several severe penances and were blessed with a female child. They named her after a Goddess as Gowri.
This child was very different from the other children. While the other children begged for toys to play with, Gowri wanted to know the divine mantra which would rid her of the cycle of births and deaths. Her father was very happy with his daughter’s request. He taught her the Devi Paraasakthi mahaa manthram. Gowri started chanting it regularly with utmost devotion. Years rolled by and she had grown to a pretty young woman and attained the marriageable age. Fate played a strange game to fulfill Gowri’s desires. A Vaishnava brahmachaari came for bikshaa. Viroopaakshan decided to marry his daughter to him against the wishes of his wife Subhavratha. The parents of the brahmachari were not happy with this marriage. They could accept Gowri who worshiped Siva only halfheartedly. Gowri was treated like an alien and a stranger to her in-laws. One day they had to attend a wedding. Since they did not want Gowri to go with them, they left her in the house. The locked up the house and went for the wedding. Gowri was feeling sad that she could neither meet any Siva Baktha nor feed him with her hands in this strange house. Lord Siva took pity in His Baktha and turned Himself into a very old devotee of Lord Siva. SAAROOPYA MUKTHI. Siva took the form of a very old man and reached Gowri’s house. He told her that he was terribly hungry. Gowri wanted to offer him food but the doors were locked! The old man told her, “If you touch the doors with your hands, they will open.” She tried it and the doors opened. She set to work in the kitchen while the tired old man rested for a while. She served him tasty food till his hunger disappeared. But a strange thing happened then. The old man was now transformed to a very young handsome man! His holy ash was transformed into sandal paste and his rudraksha into golden beads! He was more handsome than Manmatha himself! Gowri was shaken by this transformation. She hid in a corner of the house. The wedding party returned at that moment. The handsome young man now became a small baby. He started kicking his legs and crying very loudly. The wedding party was bewildered to see the doors of the house wide open and a strange child crying in the house. They threw out of the house Gowri along with the baby. Not knowing what to do, Gowri kept on chanting the Paraasakthi mahaamantra. Suddenly the baby vanished from her hands. Flowers rained from the sky. Gowri was blessed with Saaroopya mukthi. <http://groups.yahoo.com/subscribe/worldmalayaliclub/> *வாழிய செந்தமிழ்! வாழ்க நற்றமிழர்!* *வாழிய பாரதமணித் திருநாடு!* * V A N A K K A M S U B B U * -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Thatha_Patty" group.
