THE BANGLE SELLER. The rushis of Taarukaa Vanam were great and their wives were no less great. But when Lord Siva approached them for Bikshaa, their minds got filled with lust at the sight of the mendicant resembling Manmathan.
They dropped their bangles along with their Bikshaa. They prostrated to him. Their waist ornament became loose and their clothes disheveled. They invited the mendicant Siva openly to put back their bangles and tie up their clothes. Siva said that he would come on the next day and disappeared. The rushis became angry at the sight of the womenfolk with their disheveled dresses. They knew immediately what had happened there. They cursed their wives to be born in the family of the merchants in Madurai. They would get saapa vimochanam when Lord Siva would touch their hands. The rushi pathnis were born in the family of merchants in Madurai. They grew up into pretty maidens.They were waiting for their saapa vimochanam. Siva knew it was the right time to release them from their saapam. He took the form of a bangle seller. He took the same bangles dropped by the rushi pathnis earlier in his Bikshaa. He was so handsome that the maidens came out running at the sight of the bangle seller. He put bangles in the hands of all the maidens. When they wanted to pay him he said he would collect the money the next day and vanished. All the maidens conceived due to the divine touch of Siva’s hands and gave birth to sons as great as Skanda himself.
