*ASHTA SIDHDHI UPADESAM.* *One day Lord Siva was chewing the thaamboolam given with love by his consort Uma Devi. He was imparting some important messages to Sanakan and his brothers as well as the leaders of His Siva ganam.*
*The six women who brought up Kaarthigeyan prayed to Lord Siva to teach them about the Ashta Sidhdhi. Siva told them,”The Ashta Sidhdhi are servants of Uma Devi.* *You can attain them merely by praying to Uma Devi!”* *He then elaborated on the eight Sidhdhis. The six Kaarthigai women learnt His upadesam well. But for some reason, they did not meditate on Devi Uma and seek her blessings.* *They for got all the upadesam given by lord Siva.He got angry and cursed them to spend one thousand years as insentient rocks under Bunyan tree in a place calledPattamangai.The ladies would be relieved of the curse by the grace of Siva who would appear as an Achaarya.* *The women were transformed to rocks and lay under a Bunyan tree for a thousand years. When the time of their Saapa Vimochanam arrived, Lord Siva appeared As a Gnaana Guru with the brilliance of a thousand Suns!* *He did the upadesam again on Ashta Sidhdhi.
