36. THE ALCHEMIST. In the southern bank of river Vaigai, there was a Siva Kshethram called Thiruppoovanam. The lord residing there was called Thiruppoovana Naathar.
A woman lived there. Her name was Ponnanaiyaal. She was very beautiful and was a devotee of Siva. She was well versed in dance, music and veena. She used all her talents in worshiping Siva. She had two more passions in her life. She wanted to feed all the devotees of Siva and she could accomplish this easily. Her other aim was to make a vigraha of her lord in solid gold. She was spending all her earnings in feeding the Siva bakthas. She could not save money to buy the gold for the vigraha. It seemed to be an impossible dream! She thought that only the God who presented a bag of gold coins to the king would have to help her also. Siva wanted to put an end to her despair. He took the form of a Sidhdhar and reached her house. He was dressed like a yogi and smeared with holy ash. He asked the woman, “What is the cause of your constant worry that you look so famished and thin?” The woman replied, “It has been my life’s ambition to get the vigraha of my lord made in gold. Poor as I am, my dream may remain a dream for ever!” The sidhdha told her to bring all the vessels in the house. He sprinkled them with holy ash. He told her to heat them overnight in a constant fire. The next day they would all be transformed to pure gold. The woman heated all the vessels as told and lo behold they had become pure gold the next day. She got the vigraha made in gold and did puja everyday as long as she lived. When she died she went to Sivalokam. God hid his true nature and became an ordinary statue again. <http://groups.yahoo.com/subscribe/worldmalayaliclub/> *வாழிய செந்தமிழ்! வாழ்க நற்றமிழர்!* *வாழிய பாரதமணித் திருநாடு!* * V A N A K K A M S U B B U * [image: 3O6k-22bMrfxa6KVyJo1XNnBXcYknGAeTH_b5hjMJTy61R3TV0Xf9oJbzqGnmFkn.gif] -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Thatha_Patty" group.
