*38. THE INEXHAUSTIBLE CONTAINER OF RICE.*

*Adiyaarkku Nallaan was a farmer. He used to feed all the devotees of Siva.
His fields were fertile and their yields were good. He used to pay one
sixth of his produce as tax to the king and spend the rest for feeding the
devotees.*

*God proves the greatness of his devotees by subjecting them
to hardships.Siva made the yield of the field grow less and less. Nallan
could not feed the devotees any more.*

*He borrowed money and continued his service. Very soon no one was willing
to lend him any more money.*

*The feeding of the devotees came to a stop. Nallaan and his wife also
starved since they could not continue their service.*

*They decided to end their useless lives and went to the temple. Nallaan
told Siva, “Either you show me people who would lend me money or you let us
die now and here”.*

*Siva spoke to him, “I subjected you to hardship to prove your greatness to
the world. Do not despair!. I have kept a container of rice in your house.
It is inexhaustible. Use the rice to feed the devotees as before!”*

*Nallaan and his wife were happy to find the large container of rice. They
did puja to it with dhoopam, deepam and flowers.*

*Everyday they took out enough rice to cook for the devotees and buy the
vegetables for the day.*

*Their charitable activities were resumed. They lived for a long time and
left for Sivapuram when their time came.*
