ஜனகர் என்பவர் மிதிலையின் அரசனாவார். இவர் இராமாயணக் காவிய நாயகி, சீதையின் தந்தையாவார். ஜனகர் எனும் சொல்லுக்குத் தந்தை என்று பொருள். ஜனகர் மாபெரும் தத்துவ ஞானி. கர்ம யோகி. குரு யாக்ஞவல்கியர் என்பவரிடம் கல்வி கற்றார். தாமரை இலைத் தண்ணீர் போல, பட்டும் படாமல், ஒட்டி உறவாடாமல், எதன் மீதும் மோகம் கொள்ளாமல், எதையும் எதிர் பார்க்காமல், சாஸ்திரத்தில் கூறியது போல் வாழ்க்கை நடத்தினார். இறைவனுக்குச் செய்யும் தொண்டாகவே மன்னன் பொறுப்பை ஏற்றார். அவருடைய குரு யாக்ஞவல்கியர் என்ற மஹரிஷி. ஜனகர் பால் பேரன்பு கொண்டவர். ஜனகர் மன்னனாக அரியணை ஏறிய நேரம், அவரின் ஞானத்தை அறிய, பரம்பொருளான ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணன் பிராமணன் போல் மிதிலை வந்தார். தவறு செய்து, காவலாளிகள் கையில் அகப்பட்டு, ஜனகரின் அரசவையில் நின்றார். பிராமணனைக் கண்ட ஜனகர், அவர் செய்த தவறுக்கு அவரை நாடு கடத்தினார். இதைக் கேட்ட பிராமணன், மன்னனிடம், “உங்கள் நாட்டின் எல்லை எது?” – என்று வினவ, அக்கூற்றின் உண்மையை அறிந்து கொண்ட மன்னர், ”இந்நாட்டில் இருக்கலாமா என்று தாங்களே முடிவெடுத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள்.” என்றார். மன்னின் அறிவையும், பண்பையும் பாராட்டிய பரம்பொருள், அவருக்கு ஆசிகளை வழங்கினார். குரு யாக்ஞவல்கியர் , ஒரு நாள், தனது சீடர்களுக்கு ஜனகரின் சிறப்பினை எடுத்துரைக்க விரும்பினார். எனவே, அவரது சக்தியால், மிதிலை நகரம் தீப்பிடித்து எரிந்தது. அனைவரும் தங்களையும் தங்கள் உடைமைகளையும் பாதுகாக்க நெருப்பிடம் இருந்து தப்பி ஓட, ஜனகர் அசையவில்லை. என்னுடைய உடைமை எதுவும் அங்கும் இல்லை, இங்கும் இல்லை என்றார். அவர் ஆத்ம ஞானி என்பதால் பற்றற்றவராக இருந்தார். இதை க் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்த அவரது குரு, மிதிலையை மீண்டும் பொலிவுடன் மிளிரச் செய்தார். அர்ஜுனனுக்குக் கீதை உரைக்கும் பரமாத்மா, ஜனகரை ராஜரிஷி என்றே அழைத்தார். ஜனகர் கர்ம யோகியாய் வாழ்ந்து சித்தி பெற்றார் என்று கிருஷ்ணன் அர்ஜுனனிடம் உரைத்தார். திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், “ஜனகரைப் போல், கர்ம யோகியாய் வாழும் ஆற்றலை பெற்றேனா?, என்று வினவுகிறார். *========********========**********========**********========* *********========******** *karmaththAl petREnO janakaraip pOlE* King Janaka is the father of Sita in the great Indian epic Ramayan. Despite being the ruler of kingdom Videha, he was a great karma yogi. He carried on the rules of the sastras with detachment, controlled senses and without expecting anything in return. He performed all his duties as per the sastras... as a service to the Lord. When Sriman Narayan wished to test the equanimity of King Janaka, he disguised himself as a Brahmin and did a mistake that would present him in the court of King Janaka. When he was presented before King Janaka, instead of punishing the brahmin, he exiled him from his country! “Which is the boundary of your country?”- The Brahmin asked the king. Janaka understood the implication of the question and remained silent. He told the Brahmin that it is open for him to remain in his country or not. God complemented King Janaka for his detachment and controlled senses. One time his Guru Yagyavalka wanted to show the greatness of King Janaka to his other disciples. The Guru desired to reveal the spiritual accomplishment and the detachment of Janaka to the world! As per the wish of Guru Yagyavalka, King Janaka’s capital city, Mithila was in flames and people screamed and ran to save themselves and their belongings! Even the disciples ran to save their lives! Seeing his capital in terrible flames, Janaka remained calm and unruffled! There was no anxiety or any shade of suffering on his face! He said, “My wealth is eternal! There is nothing for me to desire! Nothing in me is burnt or destroyed as Mithila burns!” Amazed and pleased at the equanimity and spirituality of Janaka, Lord Vishnu brought back Mithila to its original glory! The flames disappeared instantly! The Lord presented himself before Janaka, blessed and directed him to tread on the righteous path and be truthful always! In Bhagavad Gita, when Sri Krishna explains the karma yoga, He says "karmaNyaivahi samsiddhim AsthitA janakAtaya:" - saying that Rajarishis such as Janaka attained siddhi through karma yoga.
