THE GREATNESS OF THE DEVOTEES.

“Who was the man who had appeared as Vandhi’s helper?” The king got dazed
by this thought.

The man had dumped just one basket of soil. But the river banks got
repaired. Where did he disappear?

He sent his minister to bring vandhi for questioning. The old woman got
frightened by this demand. Was the king angry with her?

Just then a divine Vimaanam descended from the sky. Vandi was accommodated
in it and the vimaanam rose high. Flowers rained from the sky. Heavenly
music was heard.

The king was dumbfounded by these sights and sounds. Siva’s asareeri
comforted him by explaining the sequence of the strange events.

“The gold earned by you by just means was spent by your minister in good
karmas. He prayed for nothing but Liberation.

You have given him a lot of trouble physically and mentally. To save him
from your fury, I had converted foxes into horses and again horses into
foxes!”

*The greatness of God.*

Lord Siva’s asareeri continued,” Again you punished my devotee. So I
created a huge flood in Vaigai river. I became the helper of my other
devotee – the old woman Vandhi. I ate her Pittu, and got hit by you.

Pardon your minister Maanikka Vaasagar and let him go free. You will live
in prosperity and good health for many more decades on the earth!”

The king was overwhelmed to hear the praise of his innocent minister from
the Lord. He himself went in search of the minister.

Maanikka vaasagar was in Madhuraapuri in the sannidhi of Siva. He
prostrated before the minister and begged for his pardon.

The minister replied, “I have no hard feelings against you nor am I angry.
My lord commands me to go to Thillaip Ponnambalam. Let me go there now!”

The king could not help wondering, “*Siva ate the humble pittu given by the
poor old woman! Is his humility exemplary*? He got beaten by me for the
sake of his other devotee. Is his greatness exemplary?

He resumed all the original activities, celebrations and festivals of the
temple. He reigned in peace and prosperity for several decades happily.
