வசிஷ்டர், பிரம்ம ரிஷி என புகழ்பெற்ற சப்த ரிஷிகளுள் ஒருவர். வேத காலத்தில் வாழ்ந்ததாகக் கூறப்படும் மாமுனிவர்களுள் இவரும் ஒருவர். வேதங்களின் பல மந்திரங்களை இவர் உருவாக்கியுள்ளார். இவரது துணைவியாரின் பெயர் அருந்ததி. இராமாயணக் காவியத்தில் வசிஷ்டர், மன்னன் தசரதனின் அரசவை ராஜ குருவாக இருந்தார். ஸ்ரீ இராமனும் அவரது தம்பிமார்களும் வசிஷ்ட மகரிஷியிடமே கல்வி கற்றனர். ஒரு நாள், விஸ்வாமித்ரர் தசரத சக்ரவர்த்தியிடம், தன் யாகத்தை காக்கும் பொருட்டு ராமனை தன்னோடு அனுப்பும்படி கேட்க, தசரதர் மனம் கலங்குகிறார். “இராமனை பிரிந்து எப்படி என்னால் இருக்க முடியும். தவமிருந்து பெற்ற பிள்ளை! மேலும், அவனோ இன்னும் சிறு பிள்ளை. எனது படையுடன் நானே வருகிறேன்!” – என்று கூறிய தசரதனிடம், விஸ்வாமித்ரர், “என்ன வேண்டுமோ கேளுங்கள் செய்கிறேன் என்று கூறிவிட்டு, இப்படி பேச்சை மாற்றி பேசுகிறீர்களே, ரகு குலத்தில் பிறந்த உங்களுக்கு இது அழகா!?”- என்று கோபம் கொண்டார். அரசவையில் இருந்த வசிஷ்டர், மன்னனிடம், “மன்னா! குடுத்த வார்த்தையை மறுத்தல் கூடாது. விஷ்வாமித்ரரின் அரவணைப்பில்இருக்கும் போது, குழந்தைகளுக்கு ஒரு ஆபத்தும் இல்லை, தாங்கள் கவலை கொள்ள வேண்டாம், குழந்தையை அனுப்பி வையுங்கள்! அவருடன் செல்வதால், நம் ராமனுக்கு தான் நல்லது. விஸ்வாமித்ர மகரிஷி, உலகில் உள்ள எல்லா அஸ்திரங்களையும் உபயோகிக்கும் ஆற்றலும் வல்லமையும் பெற்றவர். ஈசனிடம் இருந்து தாமே அவ்வாற்றலை தவமிருந்து பெற்றுள்ளார். அவை அனைத்தையும் ராமனுக்கு உபதேசிப்பார்! எனவே பயம் கொள்ளாமல், இராமனை அனுப்புங்கள்!” என்று எடுத்து சொல்கிறார். விஸ்வாமித்ரரின் மகிமையை வசிஷ்டர் எடுத்துக்கூறிய பின் ராம லக்ஷ்மணர்களை முனிவரோடு அனுப்பிவைத்தார். திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், “வசிஷ்ட மகரிஷி போல், பரம்பொருளுக்கு எது நன்மை தரும் என்று அறிந்து, பரம்பொருளின் நலனை மட்டுமே கருத்தில் கொண்டு அவருக்காக உரையாடினேனா?” – என்று வினவுகிறார். *========********========*********========********========********======== ********= *anuppi vaiyum enREnO vasishtaraip pOlE* Sage Vasistha is a revered Vedic sage in Hinduism and is the author of the Mandala 7 of Rigveda. Vishvamitra was not pleased and became angry at King Dasaratha. King Dasaratha offered to go himself with the rishi but Sage Vishvamitra wanted only Rama. Sage Vasistha who was also present in the court, predicted the future with his powers and came to know about the weapons and training Sage Vishwamitra will be given to Lord Rama. He informed King Dasaratha to send both Prince Rama and Prince Lakshmana with Vishvamitra and not to worry about them, for they are his disciples and he is well aware of their talents and skills. Even though he is famous for his legendary conflicts with Sage Viswamitra, he supported the deeds of Sage Vishvamitra, knowing the benefits that Lord Rama will get and as the result of which the world will be benefited in the future!
