*அடி வாங்கினேனோ கொங்கிற்பிராட்டியைப் போலே* இங்கு, “அடி வாங்கினேனோ” என்னும் சொல், “திருவடி” குறித்து கூறப்பட்டதாகும்! கொங்கு தேசத்தில் பன்னிரெண்டு வருடங்களாக மழை பொய்த்தமையால், வேறு வழியின்றி, கணவருடன் திருவரங்கம் வந்து சில நாட்கள் தங்கினார், கொங்கிற்பிராட்டி!! அவரது இயற்பெயர் சுமதி. திருவரங்கன் சந்நிதியைச் சுற்றியுள்ள வீதிகளில், உடையவர் ஒரு இல்லத்தின் வாயிலில் சென்று, பிக்ஷைக்கு நிற்பார்! ஒரு பசுமாட்டின் மடியை கறக்கும் நேரத்துக்குள், உள்ளேயிருந்து வீட்டுப் பெண்மணி பிக்ஷை அளிக்க வேண்டும்! இல்லையென்றால் அன்று அவருக்கு உணவு இல்லை!! இது அனுதினமும் நடக்கும். இதற்கு மாதுகரம் என்று பெயர். நூற்றுக் கணக்கில் சிஷ்யர்களும், சிம்மாசனாதிபதிகளும் உடன் வர, சுவாமி இராமானுஜர் தனது அடியார்களுடன் மாதுகரம் செல்வது ஒரு திருவிழா போல இருக்கும்!! ஒரு நாள், மாதுகரம் வைபவத்தில் உடையவரின் தேஜசைக் கண்ட கொங்கிற்பிராட்டியார், தன்னையும் அவரின் அடியாராய் சேர்த்துக்கொள்ளுமாறு கண்ணீர் மல்க மன்றாட, உடையவரும் த்வயம் என்னும் மந்திரத்தை உபதேசித்து, பஞ்ச சம்ஸ்காரம் செய்து வைத்து, ஸ்ரீ வைஷ்ணவப் பெண்ணாக மாற்றினார்!! காலங்கள் கடந்தன! கொங்கு தேசத்தில் நிலைமை மாற, மீண்டும் கொங்கிற்பிராட்டியார் கொங்குதேசம் கிளம்ப உத்தேசித்தார்!! உடையவரிடம் சென்று, “சுவாமி, அடியேன் கொங்கு தேசம் செல்ல விரும்புகிறேன். தங்களின் சம்மதம் வேண்டி நிற்கிறேன்!”, என்றார். உடையவரும் சம்மதிக்க, “உம் நினைவாய் உமது திருவடியை அடியேனுக்கு தாரும்!!”, என்று வேண்டினார் கொங்கிற்பிராட்டியார். காலங்கள் கடந்தன. சோழனின் கொடுமையிலிருந்து மீள, காவி தவிர்த்து,வெள்ளை உடுத்தி , தன் அடியார்களுடன் உடையவர் கொங்கு மண்டலம் புகுந்த ஒரு நாளில், ஒரு குடிலின் அருகே ஒதுங்கினார். அது கொங்கிற்பிராட்டியாரின் குடிலாகும்! வந்திருந்தவர்களைக் கண்டதும், பெருமகிழ்ச்சியில் திளைத்த கொங்கிற்பிராட்டியாரும் அவரது கணவரும், அவர்களுக்கு அமுது பரிமாற தங்களுக்கு கருணை புரியுமாறு வேண்டினர். இராமாநுஜர் வைணவ சம்பந்தம் இல்லாத இல்லத்தில் உணவு அருந்துவதில்லை!! அந்தப் பெண்ணிடம் அவருடைய சீடர்கள் அவளுக்கு ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவ சம்பந்தம் இருக்கிறதா என்று கேட்டனர்!! திருவரங்கத்திலே எம்பெருமானாரிடம் வைணவ சம்பந்தம் பெற்றவள் நான் என்று கூறி, அவரது பாதுகைகளை எடுத்து காட்டினார். மேலும், தான் திருவரங்கத்தில் வசித்ததையும், அவரால் பஞ்ச சம்ஸ்காரம் செய்யப்பட்டதையும் கூறினார். உடையவர், தனது அடியார்களின் சந்தேகத்திற்கு தீர்வு காண, அப்பாதுகைகளை வாங்கி, தன் பாதங்களில் இட்டு அலங்கரித்தார்! இராமாநுஜரின் திருவடிகள் கண்டதும், கண்களில் நீர் ததும்ப அவர் முகத்தைப் பார்த்த கொங்கிற்பிராட்டியார், “வெண்ணிற உடையில் தங்களை அடையாளம் காணாதது அடியேனின் தவறு! அடியேனை மன்னித்தருள வேண்டும்!”, என்று வேண்டினார்! பின்னர், உடையவரின் சம்மதத்துடன், வந்திருந்தவர் அனைவருக்கும் அமுது படைத்தார், கொங்கிற்பிராட்டியார். திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், “கொங்கிற்பிராட்டியார் போல், ஆச்சாரியாரின் பாதுகைகளை வேண்டி பெற்றேனோ?”, என்று வினவுகிறார். *========********========**********========**********========* *********========* *adi vAnginEnO kongiRpirAttiyaip pOlE* Here, the phrase "adi vAngudhal" refers to receiving acharya padukas (Guru’s footwear). Kongu Piratti's story is found in 6000 padi Guru Parampara Prabhavam. She belonged to a town called Kollaikkalam in Kongu Desam, currently Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. One time there was a great famine in the land that there was no rain for 12 years! So, she and her husband left their town and moved to Sri Rangam. During their stay in Sri Rangam, she witnessed the greatness of Swami Ramanuja and the quality of the people who were his disciples. Seeing Sri Ramanuja walking along the banks of Cauvery with his 700 ascetics, 74 Acharya Purushas, 1200 Ekangees and 300 Kotti ammai and even the kings and landlords as his disciples, she too desired to become his devotee. She fell at Swami Ramanuja’s feet and shed copious tears, in great distress crying all the while that Swami must grace her. Swami Ramanuja, looking at her supreme devotion informed the disciples to help her in her endeavour. They guided her to be at ashram for the initiation ceremony and she succeeded in becoming Swami Ramanuja’s disciple. She received the name Kongu Piratti (or Kongil Piratti) from Ramanuja. After some time, the famine lifted from the land she came from and she desired to return to her home town. She approached Swami Ramanuja seeking his blessings and informed him about her desire to leave Sri Rangam. Since she will be away from her Guru, she requested for Swami Ramanujar’s divine padukas (Footwear) for performing thiruvaradhanam. Swami Ramanuja gave his pair of divine sandals (Padhukas) on the request of his disciple. Several years later, due to the rampage created by Chozha King Kulothunga, Swami Ramanuja was forced to leave Sri Rangam in disguise, wearing white robes instead of saffron robes, to Thirunarayanapuram. On the way, he, along with his disciples, went through the town where Kongu Piratti was living. She received them and pleaded them to honour her and her husband with their grace, by allowing them to prepare food for them, without any delay. When they hesitated, saying they eat only from the houses of Brahmins and the Lord’s devotees, she politely proved to them that she indeed is Swami Ramanuja’s disciple by showing his divine padukas and sharing how she got them. Swami Ramanuja, who was silent, asked her to bring those padukas and decorated himself with the sandals. Though she was delighted to see Swami Ramanuja, she begged for forgiveness for she failed to recognise him! Delighted to see Swami Ramanuja in her hut, she, along with her husband, happily prepared dishes for Swami Ramanuja and his disciples and offered them happily!
