ENTAE PLASTIC THOTTI EVITAE? (Where is my plastic bucket?)
Dear friends, After the free availability ofdurable plastic/fibre buckets, we use them conveniently for many purposes fromsay 1960-1965’s. Buckets of different sizes, different appearances and fordifferent purposes are available now. The metallic buckets we had earlier wasnot used for so many purposes. The light weight could be one ofthe main reasons for their more and more uses. Recently I purchased square topbucket – It is convenient for taking cloths from washing machine. Now dustbins are availabledesigned like bucket. Here too there are many varieties. Some with twocontainers, external one closes, controls opening. Inner one is for storingwaste items. Some with a good lid andpedestal for opening and putting pieces of paper etc. Some buckets have flip flop tops. They are used for keeping used cloths forwashing next day. Some buckets come with tight caps. They are mostly used instore room. The use of buckets in the storeroom is very much nowadays. Mainly as the containers for rice, wheat, and sugarthese are very much used. In the work area for keeping smaller items there arespecial kitchen dustbin buckets. They have no permission to enter anywhere elsewhatever be their appearance. However handling is done by all. Some times forcleaning them the servant ladies want other buckets to empty the contents. Some lady servants put the first condition - They will not clean suchdustbin buckets, theywill inform before taking employment. For many servants cleaning buckets isallergic. Now coming to bath room, washing machine room and wash basin areas. They have very muchdifferentiation among themselves. Manyof them are personal buckets. The buckets have very much AADYATTHAM. Likenampoothiri and iyers, iyers and gold smiths, gold smiths and carpenters, andlike Poatti and Nampyathi, Nampyathi and elayathu etc in the top level itself. Today while relaxing in theafternoon, this aadyatthamcame to my mind. Day by day this aadyattham increase among them. We can never imagine socialism or communismto come in their region. They are becoming strong capitalists. I am continuing with my aadythamand other buckets. Itis in a HUMOROUS tone. No worth reading substance other than time passing init. Sincerely, Gopala Krishnan 24-4-2013. Re posted on 16-12-2020 after editing and updating. R. Gopala krishnan 1. Bhattathiri bucket. Among the aadyattham the bucketused to take water for bathing small kids get first prominence. These would bemedium, shiny, new ones of high quality fibre. The child’s mother, and sometimes father too would make a bigquarrel if anyone else use it for any other purpose. They are SACRED. These buckets have special place. The item will be of the best quality, making sure, having best handles, and noscratch even on surface. It will be exclusively used for kids only. If a slight damage occurs, they will bereplaced with in a day, the old one will have its place else where dependon the size and appearance. Surely for no outside use. It is so costlier. The store room bucket for keepingrice, wheat, sugar, are also coming to somewhat this category. Only thing, therice and wheat buckets could be medium size or large size. Here while gettingalmost empty they get a cleaning in the inside and outside with a clean cloth.Regarding sugar, there could be a child bucket also. The mother bucket wouldremain in a little privacy area of the store room. They get more cleaning than rice and wheatbuckets. These buckets will also be of first quality fibre. 1a Nampoothiri bucket These are small buckets of thebest quality fibre with a cup used to sprinkle water in the front, clean with aspecial coconut broom and rangoli is drawn in the morning by lady of the housein the morning before any other works, mostly after bath or sometimes beforebath also nowadays. This could be a rough tiled or cemented area before the entrancegate. Generous women may permit cleaning by men since it could be a perfectclean and not name sake cleaning. The bucket, cup has specific positionoutside, the broom is also used only for the front cleaning and has separateposition with aadyatham. The broom wouldbe of special quality, bucket shining, and cup too brand new. 2. Iyer bucket The iyer buckets come indifferent sub sects. The one used with washing machine, they will havedifferent sizes depend on the age of the people using them. One or two could bethere. This is exclusively to takewashed cloths for drying outside. Normally he will have his place above thewashing machine or near. Here too utmost care is taken on him. If women use, there could be colour going out lightly and would remain in the bottom ascoloured water. So they are to be well supervised, washed before use by others. This is in the normal way. But just like foul play sometimes, the hurried people would not check it and their cloths may getmulticolour appearance freely. These buckets may have sometimesbrothers, they are used for applying comfort, liquid blue, starch etc. Sometimes a basin comes to their help, clotheswould be placed on it and bucket used for adding comfort etc. However being kept over thewashing machine he has very much individuality. If some person takes him forbathroom use, there would be displeasure, whatever the reasons. Every person ensure he gives pleasingappearance over or near washing machine. Since most people want periodicalchange of them, after some time, they go to the bathroom use. This is inevitable. Probably as elders adjustto youngsters after an age, these buckets also. One thing is sure- he is only fortaking washed clothes. Old clothes will have another bucket with flip flop topmostly in the dress room. If no dress room, it could be near the washingmachine. This aadhyan will not appreciate hisbeing used to keep used clothes and give dirty smell and appearance. He willnot have cover over him and feels it most inconvenient. 3. Poatti and Moothathu buckets. These are buckets for bathing usein the bath room. Anything used near toilet will not come to his status. Mostlyin most of the homes, individual buckets are there. Some buckets in childrenbath room, will not be given for any others. They will have some light scent smellalso. Being not a very costly item, bath buckets are kept individually. Theywill not be used for applying Dettol or cleaning items, on the bath room floor, though with water they will accept a small quantity of Dettol for bath. Thesebuckets goes to the outside use when their charm getting lost. 4. Nambiathi and nambisan buckets. They will be in the guest orcommon bath room. They appear good, to keep image, they will be kept clean, andin best condition. Butwill be EXCLUSIVELY for guests.Their replacement depends on the use of guests. Here they will be used forbathing water, washing clothes, taking cloths for drying etc. But they are designated as Guest buckets. Normallyothers keep them separate. They are given honour as for guests use. 5. Gold smith buckets. These buckets are the ones usedexclusively by servant ladies for floor cleaning works. They would dislike evenother workers using it in their presence. If at all alapse occur due to their handling it will be transferred to others using themin her absence. The importantpoint is, they will simply wash, and any good cleaning is the responsibility ofHouse owner. In their duty time only simple wash is possible. As gold smith go on changingdesigns of ornaments, these buckets are periodically replaced. Even somescratches, the servants can call as OATTA BUCKET. (Bucket is leaking). Theyhave specific position when not on use or while used by servants. Others haveto take care of themselves without hitting the bucket placed at the convenienceof the servant. Some times our women folk may usethem to take water and sprinkle in the front before putting kolam (Rangoli)after cleaning. They will report the bucket is dirty, and mostly the husbandclean with detergents and keep. 6. Carpenter buckets. Just like the servant lady, theroutine workers for overhead tank and sump cleaning, other miscellaneous workslike taking out airlocks of pumps, small masonry works etc., will ask topurchase a good bucket for them. Their position is in the outside store withagricultural tools. They may not be having appearance, but sturdy. They are not so much particular of quality. 7. Mason buckets As mason work at high level andin the ground, the Dust bin buckets have their own position. The one in thehall or dining or general use will not like a transfer. The one in office willtake only paper waste. The one in general use will take wrappers, packing, medicine bottles etc. The one in diningwill take some bottle covers, biscuit covers etc. The one in kitchen only willtake vegetable cuttings and wastes of provision. The one in work area only will take the skinof plantain or seeds of dates and such items. There is a classification amongthem. The one in office will always have a new modern look and frequent change. The one in kitchen is the last one to get changed. These could only be of firstquality since being used as dustbin, they could be roughly handed. 8. Worker buckets. These are the buckets used tofeed kanji, old iddali, chappathi, and rice with water etc to cows or takesimilar things for dogs etc. They are seniors. Juniors are used to keep wastetaken by Municipality. One for degradable and another for non-degradable. Theyhave to be sturdy to face the hitting on the cart for falling from the bucket. In Chennai waste buckets are available from 2ndquality plastics. Their life period with in three months maximum. Sometimes the municipalityworkers clean them or rarely the servant lady with utmost reluctance and mostlyby the house owner. He has to keep it neat since it is kept SOME WHERE IN THEFRONT. Some municipal workers take them also if not looking good as waste. Like the payment to workerincrease, they have to be replaced often. Sometimes bath room buckets are usedfor these purposes on becoming old. I will have separate postingabout bucket using in olden days after a time. My special note - This humorous thinking about buckets suddenlycame to my mind. Nothing more is thought of. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Thatha_Patty" group.
