Q2         Why Nandi is not facing lord Siva at Kasi?

A2          Rohan Monga UpdatedNovember 25-2020

Idol of Nandi always face idol oflord Shankar or shivling because nandi is
vaahan of lord Shankar. It depictsthat nandi is always ready to serve the lord
. Nandi was one of the greatestdevotee of Shiva in previous life, hence Shiva
granted him boon that in next life , you willbecome my vaahan and your idol
will be installed facing me, always .And hence we see nandi’s idol always
facing Shiva in every temple.

But it is NOTseen in Shri Kashi Vishwanath Mandir because theoriginal temple is
now a mosque ( named Gyaanwapi Masjid ) The originaltemple was demolished by
Aurangzeb (and Shiva gave mughals punishment also forthis, he was last powerful
mughal emperor , after him, mughal dynasti onlyfaced decline) But the temple
was not completely demolished, the idol of nandi wasuntouched , hence now also
, the original idol of nandi faces the mosque.

The Golden one is the Mandir and the blue one is Gyaanwapi masjid. Andthey both
are neighbours of each other.

Q3          What is the silver layer on top of Indian sweets? What isits
importance?

A3          This silver layer thatyou see on the Indian sweets is the
silverwork that is been made to just enhance the beauty of the sweets.

The process which is used to make the silverwork for years was, to useanimal
gut(intestine of goat or buffalo or any animal) and they beat theintestine of
any such animal and place some silver sheets, which forms thesilver layer which
is your silver vark. That is placed on your sweets. That is why some people
avoid eatingthe sweets which have the silver work on it as it has used
non-vegto make that sheet.

After this practice, the government of India placed a ban on theproduction of
these sheets in 2016, but again due to a huge loss in jobs andemployment, which
lead to potentially a loss of money in this sector, the government restoredthe
ban and allowed this practice to continue.Which also lead to the productionof
vegetarian Vark, which is again prepared via machine.

All in all this silver vark has no special nutrients to offer to your body,it
is just a thin layer which is used to enhance the beauty and temptation ofthe
sweets.

You can avoid eating it as it has not good or you can have some of it ifyou eat
sweets occasionally and you don't have any problem with themanufacturing
process.I hope this answer adds some value!

Q4         Are Iyengar bakeries in Bangalore really owned by Iyengars?

A4          Ramaswamy Sundaram December2-2020 Lived in Mysuru, Karnataka, India
(2006–2020)

hahahah…Friend …I just can’t stifle my laughter on reading your question!Yet
your inquisitiveness is amazing to know the truth. Yes in Karnataka I haveseen
the name boards of Iyengar Bakeries that are thronged by Customers, forthe
taste of the items sold by them.

Motivated by your question, I made a research about the origin of theseIyengar
Bakeries online. I found the following answer:

“The first and onlyIyengar Bangalore Bakery (B.B) was started by H S
Thirumalachar in 1898 inBangalore. It continues to operate till date. Its
success hasspawned numerous similar named bakeries in some cities in India
today. The Bangalore Bakery is run byits fourth generation entrepreneur, H T
Srinivas.

Tell us when and how the first Bangalore Bakery was founded. Why was itnamed BB?

My great-grandfather, H S Thirumalachar started B.B. Bakery more than acentury
ago. That was way back in 1898. He first opened a sweet shop on ChikpetMain
Road, Bangalore, with his brother. When I was a child, my grandmother usedto
tell us that an Englishman from the iconic West End Hotel was a regular atmy
great grandfather's shop. He taught my grandfather how to bake bread duringthe
1890s and that’s how our family got into the baking business. Since my
great-grandfather andhis brother started it, the name of the new venture was
B.B. Bakery --Bangalore Brothers Bakery. During my father’s time, the name was
changed to BangaloreBrahmins Bakery. We are Vaishnava Iyengars from Hulikal,
one of theashtagrama villages in Hassan district of Karnataka and hence the
word Brahminin the name.

So the name has kindled interest because Iyengars are a sect of
BrahminCommunity; and a Bakery cannot function without using egg, which is
anon-vegetarian item and the two names does not correlate, ..hahahaha.

Yet another example of attracting Customers by name is the Udupi Hotels. In the
oldendays Brahmins emerging from Udupi in Karnataka were expert cooks and
enteredthe Hotel Industry and achieved tremendous success. In Chennai there is
a big 5 Star Hotel in Egmore area, which is owned by Udupi Brahmin. Since the
name is very popular for vegetarianhotels, the same name of “Udupi Hotel”
sprang up in almost all the Townsand Metropolitans in Tamilnadu. Their owners
need not be Udupi Brahmins! Are you clear in your mind now friend? HAR
HARMAHADEV!

Q5         Why is Tamil Nadu so different from other states?

Q6         What happened to Dussala after Kurukshetra?

A6          Seshachalapathi Rao UpdatedJune 15, 2020

After Mahabharata war we come across Dussala in Aswamedha parva.

Dussala, the sister of 100 brothers , was the only sister to Yuyutsu
andPandavas also. Thus shehad 106 brothers in all all living in one place. She
was the onlydaughter of ruling king Dhritarashtra and was married to Jayadradha
, the kingof Sindhu and Suaveera kingdoms. As we all know, Jayadradha was
killed in the war of Mahabharata andDussala became a widow.

Soon after Mahabharata war was over, Yudhistara had decided to performAswamedha
Yaga. Enormous money was required to perform the Yaga and pleasebrahmins ,
befitting a new emperor. Pandavas fetch gold and diamonds of KingMaruth of a
bye-gone era, as advised by Veda Vyasa and Arjuna embarks onAswamedha.

The holy horse visits so many kingdoms accompanied by Arjuna and his armyand
whoever captures the horse as a gesture of defiance were tackled by Arjuna.Post
Mahabharata war, most of the kingdoms were being ruled by the nextgeneration of
young kings whose fathers and seniors died in MB war. As advised by Yudhistara
not tokill these kings who were already mourning for their dead fathersand
relatives but gently persuade them to concede defeats , Arjuna dealt witheach
of them softly keeping the killing to bare minimum.

When the horse reached the kingdom of Sindhu, the kings of Sindhucaptured the
horse and gave Arjuna handful of battle, though Suradha, the sonof Jayadradha
was not to be seen in the battle field. They were particularly severe because
they wanted totake revenge for Arjuna’s killing of Jayadradha. Arjuna tried to
advice them tostop the war, but they don’t budge. So, Arjuna had to step up the
tempo andstarted to kill them in good number.

That was when Dussala arrived with her very young grandson and pleadedwith
Arjuna to stop further battle.

She informed that her son and the father of her grand child, Suradha, died the
moment he heard Arjuna was coming with a Aswamedha horse. He wasalready reeling
under the grief with regard to losing his father and Arjuna’sarrival was too
much for him to cope with. The life drained out of him themovement he heard
Arjuna was coming there too.

Dussala told her brother that ,though his grandfather may have done wrong to
Pandavas, the boy was innocentand let the war be stopped atleast now. Dussala
also asked the Sindhu warriorsto withdraw.

Arjuna embraced his sister, consoled her and and declared stopping of the
offence and left to proceed toother kingdoms.

Thus Dussala remained as the Queen of Sindhu , being the guardian of hergrand
son.
