I have startedcultural QA again as desired by many friends and QA are compiledmostly from quora. Sincerely, GopalaKrishnan 08-1-2021. 1 Nilayavidwan of All India Radio In my homeincluding my children initially started to use the Nickname Nilaya Vidwan when morning tiffin is Uppuma. It continues till today. I hadsomehow or other a disliking to any type of Uppuma. Later my children extendedit to Noodlesalso. Due to some reason Iddali batter could not be prepared or exhausted,immediate tiffin was Uppuma for my wife. Normally I desired to have eitherIddali or Dosai. Reason for my disliking uppuma was either I could not consumemore and use to get hungry within an hour. Now with readymade batter, theproblem is in the morning we have to go and purchase. So far no home deliveryis in Chennai. Update- Now twomore nilayavidwans have joined. Adai dosai and noodles. Though in advertisement it is told thenew flavor would attract even while preparing and taste is more, still I havenot tested the new noodles form Nestle. How Nilaya Vidwanwas used as Nickname? Yes. The music of Nilaya Vidwan is for minutes, the lastprogram has finished and yet a few minutes for the next program. Particularlythis was there before news. The program would be ABRUPTELY stopped. Mostly itis recorded and kept for playing under such instances. Update- after TV hastaken priority and pushed back radio nilayavidwan was playing in TV for longtime. Now their playing is, limitedto Doordarshan channels. I have seen very interesting topic is told,abruptly stopped and scheduled program starting which many times notinteresting. 2 Special invitation for Nilaya vidwan Whenever mywife used to invite for tiffin telling it is hot and come quickly for tiffin mychildren used to comment- Appa– Nilayavidwan, hence Amma’s special invitation. Later when noodles have taken place instationary shops (Not Provision shops on those days) slowly Uppuma startedgiving way. This was because the masala content and oil content which made themmore tasty than Uppuma (For us including my wife) 3 Extension of term Nilaya Vidwan Later thenickname was extended for many items. Later even during official functions ifsome VIP has to arrive, but delaying, some music or dance is conducted, thesemusic sections and dance performers were signaled to complete immediately onhis arrival. These were nicknamed Nilaya vidwan. 4 I am used as Nilaya Vidwan. During manyswitchover inaugural functions of STD we were having some alternatearrangements to see it go through in Telecom department. Many times I was puton the seat, as observer and act. Similarly during seminars I was given a topic and asked to prepare and beready if some VIP has not landed to fill up the blank. Particularlywhile I was in Training Centre it was a big dilemma for me. My close friendsuse to remark while passing through – “Stand by?’’ On those days participation in a country levelseminar was considered as a reward. 5 Do Nilayavidwan music not admired at all? No is theanswer. Many times listeners enjoyed them. Sometime people get displeased alsofor abrupt discontinuing. It is something similar to stopping interesting filmnews and starting Main picture at scheduled time in Cine Theatres. 6 My Group postings and position of Nilaya vidwan. Of late Ihave made it a practice to post some material every day to the groups. (Howsuch a habit has come to me is still not known to me. I know very well nothing wouldhappen if I do not make a posting) Update- Due to personal reasons after forming of newgoogle groups I am irregular. Many ask me the reason – Only personal reasons. 7. New Nilayavidwans NewNilayavidwan have joined on retirement of old members. They are in the form of Ravaiddali, piti kozhukkattai,and ordinary Pongal. I recollect my hostel days at Trivandrum, when batteris not prepared for iddali/dosai head cook preparing Parippu vadai (Thoordhalvadai). We would by hungry by 11 AM itself.
