A celebration of the years of survival, death, and an ode to life. In betweenthe black fumes of a burning pyre, pristine sunlight, and calm Ganges one cantruly perceive living life with aplomb. And it feels exhilarating.The Avatar. While onevisit Varanasi for their religious sentiments, history, or probably to exploremore about Indian History Culture. I, on theother hand, couldn’t resist the contrast of buzzing city on one side and therecluse life of Aghoris on the other. The more time one spent on ghats, the more one feelsthe belongingness within. The silence sings a melodious song to thy ears.However, you gotta really find that silent corner. And trustme, that’s not too hard. I adore thefragrance of the incense at temples in Kedareshwar and feel equal, if not more,the serenity in the burning ember at Manikarnika. I am a new person every day as I walk past theinspiring graffiti adorning the walls at Varanasi Ghats, so casually. I feel likea poet, a singer, a painter, and a kid every other day. Varanasiisn’t a city, it is a poetry in itself. Be it theuncanny ambiance of the crowded narrow lanes. Or the aesthetic handicraftswhich inspire. Maybe it isthe birds were chirping or maybe it is the beautiful aroma of freshly friedjalebi wafted through the screens. I am amorning person. And, my mornings get a purpose every single time I am inVaranasi. Usually, Iblame metabolism, aging bones, and every goddamn thing in the world, just to belazy. I feel 60 already. In Varanasi,I am 10. Literally! TheStrangers, with whom I share a Chai served in a Kulhad or maybe learned a fewYoga Tips. Or, maybethe co-travellers with whom I met on the way to explore the real Varanasi. It’s theghats, the lanes, the chants, the cuisine, the naughty monkeys, the yoga, thespirit, the saints, the Ganges. Everythingabout Varanasi leaves me spellbound. The magicalbond with Benaras (Varanasi). And,whatever it may be, be it the age-old classics or the experience of gettingenraptured by those old mythological stories. Be it therecuperation of the avant-garde for art or the solemnity of the Hermit residingby the bay. Everything about Varanasi compels me to visitthis place again. And again. It ain’t mybirthplace. It is also not where I was brought up. It’s notwhere I found my love. It is not my place of earning a livelihood. But it is more than what I canexpress. It is identity, It is an association.
