Q1         Is it any problem if asingle phase 220V electrical supply neutral to
Earthing  voltage shows 2.4v?
A1          Donald Glass December 17 BSc (Elec Eng) in ElectricalEngineering,
University of Cape Town (Graduated 1974)

Yes and no!! Mostregulators require the Neutral line to be earthed at the
connection to yourhouse. In this case, any voltage on the Neutral implies a
poor connection toearth and this is bad.

Some regulators only connectNeutral to earth at the nearest substation which
may result in a small voltageon the Neutral line at your premises. Anything
below 10v isacceptable.

However.. Sensitive electrical equipment often misbehaves if the Neutralin not
well earthed.. Examples are devices that are controlled by remotecontrollers
(garage doors, ceiling fans, TV sets etc)

I recommend that an electrician is employed to strap the Neutral to aquality
earth at your DB board.

My note- When Heater coils in the bathroom becomes faulty by poorinsulation
unless earth is not proper neutral earth would be felt in washing machines. Low
current in water taps of the  bath room where heater isinstalled.   Most of the
new homes earth is madebelow the 3 phase connection and earth wire is plastered
sometimes inside wall. This is donewith the intention accidental touch does not
give shock.

Immediate possible is to replace the coil. Old homes no such problems.Earth
line is visible.

Q2         What’s something new youlearned today?

A2          Drishti Khatri Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India May 7

Not today, I learnt it in lockdown. I spell oil all over in the kitchen.
Mymother doesn't panic that much and even not scolded me.

Even she taught me how to clean it. Well, we will simply clean it with acloth
or something but she said it doesn't work, the floor will remain oily.

So, she first wiped up thoroughly and then told me to take flour.

She told me to spread the flourall over the ground where the oil was a spill,
then wipe the ground with thatflour.

In this way, the flour will soak oil and the floor will not be oilyanymore.
Then take up flour and throw it.Now, whenever I spill oil I do this.

Q3         As per Hindu mythology, all the sorrows and happiness are a result of
our karma in our past life. If itis so, then why do people pray to God for help
in times of distress, knowingthat suffering is imminent and predestined? And
what is the role of God in ourlife, if he can't help us?

A3          Ratnamala Kamath M'com from Karnatak University, Dharwad(Graduated
1988)Wed

The sorrows and happiness that a human being goes through could be aresult of
past or present karma.

When someone has a terminal illness and knows he is going to die, does he bear
the pain and sitquietly at home? No. When he can't bear the pain he goes to a
doctoror hospital to alleviate his pain. Though the doctors may not be able to
makehim live, they try to makehis pain bearable by giving him painkillers.

Similar is the reason why people pray to god when beset by sorrows andproblems.

Though he may not be able tocompletely erase their past karma, he will give the
person praying to him, thestrength to bear his sorrows and sufferings.

Here god himself is like the painkiller. His role in our life is to hold our
hand and help uscomplete this journey of life. And he does have the power to
reduce the effectsof our past bad karma if he feels that we deserve it.

Just as food nourishes the body, prayer to god nourishes the soul. The answer
is based on my personal experience andunderstanding of the above question

My note- Excellent answer.

Q4         What are the benefits oftaking Omega 3, 6, 7, and 9?

A4          RONCUVITA Former Self Employed April 8

Omega 3-6-7-9are fatty acids that are antioxidative in nature and decrease
inflammation.Further, cells require these healthy fats for functioning
properly. A healthyproportion of these fatty acids helps our body metabolizing
energy and improvescognition.

While Omega 3and 6 are essential, meaningthat they need to be consumed through
the diet, Omega 9 isn’t strictlyessential. Our body can create Omega 9 on its
own, but consumingfood rich in this fat can not only decrease inflammation but
also improveinsulin sensitivity.

Omega-3 FattyAcids

Omega 3 is the most essential of these fats. Available in high amounts infatty
fish and walnuts, omega-3s provide the following health benefits:

● Improves symptoms of depression and anxiety

● Slows down age-related mental decline

● Improves heart health

○ Lowers triglycerides levels

○ Decreases levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol

○ Keeps arteries smooth and healthy

● Reduces chronic inflammation

● Provides relief from joint pain

● Decreases risk of certain cancers

Types of Omega 3 fatty acids include: ● Alpha-linolenic Acid
(ALA)●Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA)● Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA)

While ALA isavailable through vegetarian sources, EPA andDHA are mostly
available through fatty fish. Also, consuming DHA is veryimportant for pregnant
women.

Omega-6 Fatty Acids

Like Omega-3, Omega-6 fatty acids are essential and need to be consumedthrough
diet. Further, it is very important to maintain a healthy balance ofomega-3 and
omega-6, as adisbalance may lead to several health issues.

Omega 6 has pro-inflammatory properties, so a higher ratio of Omega-6 toOmega-3
can lead to more inflammation in the body. Therefore, itis very important to
take omega-3 if you’re consuming omega-6 fatty acids.

Omega-6 fatty acids contain GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) and
DGLA(dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid) have the following benefits:

● Decreases inflammation ● Provides energy for the bodyOmega-7 FattyAcids

Recently gaining popularity for reducing the risk of heart disease, obesity, and
type 2 diabetes,

Omega-7 (palmitoleic acid) isunsaturated fat that can be manufactured by our
body.

Omega-7 fatty acids may reduce the risk of the following chronic illnesses:

● Heart disease ● Obesity-related diseases

● Type 2 diabetes  Omega-9 FattyAcids

Oleic acid, the most common omega-9 fatty acid, is usually consumedthrough
diet. Most other omega-9 fatty acids can be produced automatically bythe body
itself.

So Omega-9 fatty acids aren’t strictly essential.

Yet experts have noted the beneficial effects of consuming diets rich inomega-9.

Diet Sources for Omega 3-6-7-9

Diet sources for omega-3 fatty acids include:

● Salmon● Sardines● Mackerel

● Flaxseeds● Walnuts● Chia seeds

Diet sources for omega-9 fatty acids include:

● Almonds● Corn oil● Soybean oil● Walnuts

● Mayonnaise

Diet sources for omega-7 fatty acids include:

● Buckthorn berries● Macadamia nuts

Diet sources for omega-9 fattyacids include:

● Almond oil● Olive oil● Peanut oil● Cashews

● Almonds

When to take an Omega 3-6-7-9 Supplement?

If you don’t consume fatty fish 2-3 times a week, then consuming a good
supplement for omega3-6-7-9 fatty acids is highly recommended.

A healthy proportion of these fatty acids will help you in enjoying agood and
healthy lifestyle. Further, it will reduce your chances of developingchronic
illnesses.

How to select the rightsupplement?

The right supplement will have omega 3 in a much higher amount than omega6.
Higher amounts of omega-6 may lead to inflammation in the body. So make
surethat the supplement that you select has a high amount of EPA, DHA, and ALA.

Q5         Why don't good andeducated people join politics in India?

A5          Awdhesh Singh Ex-IRS|IITian| Educator|Author Essay &Ethics book for
UPSCThu

A few months ago, I visited my native village in UP where my parents
aresettled. It was the time when the entire country was suffering from the
impactof corona virus and hundreds of people were dying due to this virus.

I stay in the Delhi NCR region, and wherever I visited a shop, I foundmost of
the people wearing masks and the covid protocol being followed to agreat extend.

However, in the village, Ifound that not a single person was wearing a mask or
following any covidprotocol.

In the evening, a large number of close relatives of the extended familycame to
meet us and none was wearing any mask. I was really scared for thehealth of my
family and for the health of the villagers as well.

When I told them that they must wear a mask, they laughed and said, ‘Corona
happens only in cities. In the villege, there is no corona-varona.We trust in
God and He will save us.’

Some of them even took offencewhen I did not sit with them for a long time
doing chit-chatting.

Some of these people even went to Haridwar to take bath in the riverGanges to
get the blessing of God to wash their sins and get protection fromthe corona.

And I was informed just a few days ago that most of the villagers havebeen
suffering the symptom of covid-19 and almost two dozen villagers, including some
of my close relatives, have died in the last one month alone.

However, none of them got tested for covid 19 for the fear of beingquarantined
and thus kept infecting each other.

Their infection or deaths are not recorded in any government record. Indiais
full of such stupid, ignorant, casteist, communal and blind-believers. They are
in the vast majority ascompared to the good and rational people in India.

These ignorant fools will always vote for the politicians who are
equallystupid, ignorant, casteist, communal and a blind-believer.They don’t
likeadvice coming from good and educated people.

If an educated person evertries to give them sane advice, instead of following
the advice, they try todestroy the educated person.

Let me narrate an interesting story from the collection ofHitopadesha Tales.

Once upon a time, there was a huge tree on the banks of a river. The treemade a
comfortable home for the family of birds who had built their nests onits
branch. The birds were living there happily as the tree with its
widespreadbranches sheltered them from the scorching sun and heavy rains.

One day, when the sky was overcast with dark clouds, it rained veryheavily.
Some monkeys who were playing nearby the tree got drenched and ran forshelter
under the tree. Allof them were shivering with cold.

When the birds saw the monkeys in the pitiable condition, one of thebirds
said,” O Monkeys, youwould not have to shiver like this, if you had built a
home like us.

You would not have to suffer like this. If we can build our nest withsmall
beaks, then why can’t you. By God’s grace, you have two hands and two legs. Why
don’t you make anice shelter for yourselves?”

On hearing this, the monkeys got annoyed and swore to teach a lesson tothe
birds. They said to themselves, “These birds are not afraid of the rain or of
cold wind. They are living comfortably that is why they are criticizing us like
this.Let the rain stops, we’ll show them how to build home”.

As soon as the rain stopped, the monkeys climbed up the tree anddestroyed the
nests of the birds. They also broke the birds’ eggs and threw the young ones
down.

The poor birds flew here and there in misery. They were fullof regret for their
words and realized that they should not have given advicethat was not asked.

Advice should only be given to learned, wise and to those who ask forit.[1]

There is no doubt that India, like any other country, needs good peoplein
politics.

However, as long as Indians keep electing stupid, ignorant, casteist
andcommunal politicians who are the worse of human beings, there is no place
forgood and educated people in Indian politics.

Some of the masses may today be cursing the politicians they have
electedbecause their loved ones have died or they have lost their jobs.

However, when the time for election would come, they will again vote tothe same
corrupt, casteist, communal politicians rather than waking up fromtheir deep
slumber of ignorance and select the best people for leading theirnation.

And then they wonder ‘Why don't good and educated people join politics inIndia?’

Footnotes [1] The Birds and the Shivering Monkeys Story

My note- In South India mostpoliticians are  educated  above graduate level and
most  have other sources of income.

There is a succesful Malayalam film – Oru Indian Pranayakatha acted by Mr
Fahadh Faasil   and Amalapaul.

In the film Mr Fahadh Faasil     inthe end tells- a goodpolitician should also
havea good career. Hecompleted the discontinued Law education (BL) while  he
was talking this.(There should be legal sources of income for a politician )

Q6         Why don't they put rubberon train track wheels so they can grip the
rail better and pull box cars upover mountains and hillsides?

A6          Ferenc Valenta Natural born engineer May 10

“Why don't they put rubber ontrain track wheels so they can grip the rail
better and pull box cars up overmountains and hillsides?”

That’s a different transportationtechnology: roads. It works, but requires
roughly ten times more power andenergy to keep the vehicle moving, despite the
much lower empty weight of thevehicle. Railways are expensiveto build, but in
the long term they spare a lot of energy, and electrificationhas been solved
for decades by now!

Rubber-wheeled trains are usedwhere noise and vibrations are more problematic
than the power requirements. Paris metro, Munchen airport subwayto the
satellite terminals and so on.

One possible solution is using a rack and pinion-like system:And theaxles of
the train:

This is the “Fogaskerekű” train in Budapest (Hungary). It climbs verysteep
hills that are problematic for rubber-wheeled vehicles, too.

Q7         Is Patala Lok mentionedin Hindu mythology and epics denoting the
South America of the present times? If yes, which geographical areas are the
other six Lok- Atala, Vitala, Sutala,Mahatala, Talatala and Rasatala Lok
representing?

A7          Prasanna Khakre  Sr.Architect at Cognizant Technology Solutions
(2009–present)20m ago

Thats a misunderstanding, Earth is one and it is not patalaloka, those who say
that US is Patalaloka don’t understand it properly.

There are total 14 lokas (you can call them dimensions or anything) intotality
as described in Brahmand Purana, based on human moral consciousnessand are
called as 7 Vyarthis and 7 Patalas. Earth is neitherof them.
