Q1         If humans use deodorant because armpit odor is offensive, from an
evolutionary perspective how can you explain why we didn't developpleasant
smelling armpits?

A1          Ken Saladin Former professorof histology (microscopic anatomy) Fri

The odor many find offensive is largely an effect of wearing clothes that
retard the evaporationof sweat. Sweat lingers longer, resulting in more
bacterialfermentation and production of odoriferous breakdown products.
Evolution didn’tprepare humans for wearing clothes.

Q2         How did they calculate the dates of events in BC years? Howdid they
even know the year was 154 BC? How did they know that Christ would beborn 154
years from then?

A2          Matt Riggsby MA Archaeology,Boston University Thu

They didn’t.

The AD system wasn’t invented until long after the life of Christ. It was
developed by a monk living inthe Balkans name Dionysius Exiguus, around what’s
now 525 AD.

Before that, people did not useAD/BC dates.

Rather, they used a variety of other dating systems. Most of the time, itwas
based on reigns of local rulers. People interested in longer spans ofhistory
found other ways of dating events. Roman historians dated things from the
founding of thecity of Rome, while the Greeks counted Olympiads.

Dating in this country wouldn’t make much sense in that country, but withlow
levels of “international” travel and coordination, that wasn’t really aproblem.

Q3         If Aryabhata invented 0 in Kali Yuga, how do we know thatthere were
100 Kauravas in Mahabharata?

A3          Raja Seth FormerThinker, mentor, humanitarian4m ago

Dudes, there were no numbering methods in Babylonian or Roman for say,HUNDRED
Billion. Try writing it in Babylonian 60 letter language, or even withRoman
script. The resulting number in writing will fill up a whole page!!!

You can’t use such a system foranything in mathematics.

So, understand it IS important to simplify numbers using ZERO, and TENbased
positional notation. That allowed for astronomical calculations, and
morerecently in computational mathematics. Without an actual SCRIPT for zero as
‘0’in a base TEN system, none of these would have ever been possible.

So, don’t underestimate the power of simplicity. The invention of anotation to
designate ZERO as ‘0’ is a giant step for mankind.

My note- We are inKaliyuga and not dwapara yuga. In dwapara yuga probably
people were knowingzero, and after yuga change the knowledge would havebeen
disappeared

Q4         How did poor people in the Middle Ages survive when theyonly had
very little food like bread and potatoes? How come people now say thatyou’ll
die if you eat below 900 calories?

A4          Mats Andersson Visited24 European countriesThu

Um… lots of people didn’t. Until WWI,starvation was a regular occurrence in
Europe, and hunger was a real issue fora couple of years after WWII in many
countries.

That’s why we don’t have big populations in Scandinavia. The shortsummers meant
that survival was touch and go even in a good year, and onesingle bad harvest
culled the population.

Over a decade, there would be acouple of years when 10–20% of the population
starved to death.

Q5         How did they keep castles warm in winter?

A5          Susanna Viljanen Worksat Aalto University Wed

By fireplaces, having a lot oftapestries and carpets, and dressing warm.

Unless the castle was merely a garrison or a stronghold, there were living
quarters inthe castle, which were intended to be warm and cosy. They
wereusually built the same way as town houses. Needless to say, they were not
verydefensible, though.

Q6         In Mahabharata, all the Pandavas were very strong andintelligent.
Why did only eldest brother Yudhisthir give the answer of Yakshawhere all
others failed?

A6          Kavana N Lives inBangalore, Karnataka.Fri

My note- Question is repeat, butanswer is from  different person.

All the brothers were intelligent for sure, but Yuddhishtra was most
intelligent among all.

Secondly, all the brothers failed because they did not even try answeringthe
questions. Theyall felt it was unnecessary to heed to an invisible voice and
hence died.

When Nakula was asked to answer the questions, then drink the water, hedidn't
care and drank the water and died.

Nakula quickly proceeded towards the place where there was water and sooncame
upon it. And beholding a crystal lake inhabited by cranes he desired todrink of
it, when he heard these words from the sky, 'O child, do not committhis rash
act! This lake hath already been in my possession. Do thou, O sonofMadri, first
answer my questions and then drink of this water and take away (asmuch as
thourequirest).

Nakula, however, who was exceedingly thirsty, disregarding these words, drank of
the cool water, and having drunk of it, dropped down dead.

When Sahadeva was asked, he too did not care and died .

'O child, do not commit this rash act! This lake hath already been in
mypossession. First answer my question, and then drink of the water and take
awayas much as thou mayst require.' Sahadeva, however, who was extremely
thirsty, disregarding these words, drank of the water, and having drunk of it,
droppeddown dead.

When Arjuna was asked ,he made a net of arrows and thought that no onecould
harm him and drank water and died.

And, being fatigued, he who was capable of drawing the bow by his lefthand as
well, rushed in the direction of the water. And as he was rushing(towards the
water), he heard these words from the sky, 'Why dost thou approachthis water?
Thou shalt not be able to drink of it by force. If thou, OKaunteya, can answer
the question will put to thee, then only shalt thou drinkof the water and take
away as much as thou requirest, O Bharata!' Thusforbidden, the son of Pritha
said, 'Do thou forbid me by appearing before me!And when thou shalt be sorely
pierced with my arrows, thou wilt not then againspeak in this way!' Having said
this, Partha covered all sides with arrowsinspired by mantras. And he also
displayed his skill in shooting at aninvisible mark by sound alone. And, O bull
of the Bharata race, sorelyafflicted with thirst, he discharged barbed darts
and javelins and iron arrows, and showered on the sky innumerable shafts
incapable of being baffled. Thereupon, the invisible Yakshasaid, What need of
all this trouble, O son of Pritha? Do thou drink only afteranswering my
questions! If thou drink, however, without answering myquestions, thou shalt
die immediately after.' Thus addressed, Pritha's sonDhananjaya capable of
drawing the bow with his left hand as well, disregardingthose words, drank of
the water, and immediately after dropped down dead.

When Bhima was asked, he thought he will fight with the person and drankwater
and died .And beholding them, Bhima afflicted though he was with thirst, was
exceedingly distressed. And that mighty armed hero thought all that to havebeen
the act of some Yaksha or Rakshasa. And Pritha's son Vrikodara thought, 'Ishall
surely have to fight today. Let me, therefore, first appease my thirst.'Then
that bull of the Bharata race rushed forward with the intention ofdrinking.
Thereupon the Yaksha said, 'O child, do not commit this rash act! This lake hath
already been in my possession. Do thou first answer myquestions, and then drink
and take away as much water as thou requirest!"

Vaisampayana continued, "Thus addressed by that Yaksha ofimmeasurable energy,
Bhima, without answering his questions, drank of thewater. And as soon as he
drank, he fell down dead on the spot.

When Yuddhishtra was asked, he accepted that thelake was not his and thus he is
bound to answer the questions and he accepted to answer. Thus he was ableto
answer all the questions with ease and revived his brothers.

O son of Pritha, act not rashly! This lake hath already been in mypossession.
Do thou, O son of Kunti, first answer my questions, and then takeaway as much
as thou likest!' Yudhishthira said, 'I do not, O Yaksha, covet, what is already
in thy possession! O bull among male beings, virtuous personsnever approve that
one should applaud his own self (without boasting, I shall, therefore, answer
thy questions, according to my intelligence). Do thou ask me!'

Q7         I have cities, but no houses. I have mountains, but notrees. I have
water, but no fish. What am I? DONT SEARCH in Google

A7          Bhuvana Rameshwar FormerTeacher, Fri

I have cities, but no houses. I have mountains, but no trees. I havewater, but
no fish. What am I? DONT SEARCH in Google

The ans is a MAP . It can be aGLOBE too.

But I was wondering if it can be our world seeing its current state
ofenvironment and its pathetic condition.

We have cities but no houses in the true loving sense of belonging,
love, comfort and care. Family set up, society unity are breaking up. Divorces
areincreasing. People don't want to have children.

We have mountains without trees as mountains are broken to take awaygranite and
marble. Mountains are broken down with dynamite and flattened forgetting
minerals and metals. Climate change is heating up the world and dryingup
mountains, causing forest fires.

Our seas, rivers and oceans are so polluted and warmed that sea creaturesare
dying. The fish, corals, sea mammals and all sea animals are becominglesser and
lesser and some are in danger of extinction.

So can we take ‘our world’ or“the earth” as an answer also.

Q8         Which friend of Dronacharya was defeated by Arjuna? What was his

Drupada and Dronacharya studied together in gurukul they became friends,
Drupada was son of a king andDrona was son of a brahmin. Drupada had promised
Drona that he willgive half of his kingdom to Drona after he bcomes king.

Many years after the gurukul life ended , Drona was living in poverty. Hewent

But Drupada refused to give cows as drona's share instead, he agreed to give
100 of cows as daan(दान) to brahmin friend.

Drupada took it as his insult and said that he will take away the kingdomof
drupada one day.

Mruthyasanjeevini(Restorer of Life) , Vishalyakarani(remover of arrows) ,
Sandhanakarani, also known as the restorer of skin and Savarnyakarani (restorer
of skin colour)

Q10       Is there any difference between "heart beat" and"pulse rate"?

The young boy looked confused; his parents anxious.

‘We got a pulse oximeter at home. We just put it to check my son and it shows
slow pulserate; as low as 42/min.

We got a COVID test done for him;it is negative’ said the father.

The little trace stammer in his voice reflected his concern.

‘Doctor he will not eat anyvegetable and sleeps late, allthe time playing games
in the laptop’ added the anxious mother.

Sometimes it is easy to solve;as easy as holding the pulse oximeter upside
down. But that was not the case here.

The heart contracts (systole) and pumps out blood (the heart beat). Thethrust
of propulsion wave travels down the arterial tree, down to the wristwhere it is
palpated by the doctor as pulse and read out as Pulse Rate (PR) bythe pulse
oxymeter. Normally every heart beat shouldthrust blood resulting in a pulse
wave; making Heart beat (heart rate)practically equivalent to Pulse Rate.

But not always.

Heart rhythm abnormality (Atrial fibrillation, Ventricular Tachycardia)is often
a sign of some underlying heart disease; but not always. Occasionalirregular
beat, arising from the ventricle can sometimes happen in healthyyoung people.
These beats arising from ventricular muscle; a tad early than theexpected next
beat, giving them the name ‘benign’ Ventricular Prematurecontractions (VPC).

Such VPCs, being early, propel less amount of blood, resulting in lessthrust, a
weak or absent (missing) pulse. Such beats are not picked up as apulse by the
doctor’s finger or the pulse oximeter (Circled Red in Fig. above). These kind of
‘missingpulse’ doesn’t do any harm excepting giving some sleepless nights to
anxiousparents.

A detailed Cardiac evaluation (Echo, treadmill Exercise Test) clinchesthe
diagnosis. Mostbenign VPCs go off as people grow up.

There is one simple way of checking out the true heart rate; by using
aninstrument; designed in France, which presently doubles up as a
doctorsID-card; the‘Stethoscope’. Placed over the chest it conveys the correct
HeartRate as a ‘lup-dup’ for those who care to listen.

Before blaming the ‘Water-supply’ ‘pumping-station’ for the empty bucketin your
bathroom, make sure that the pipes are fine, the bill is paid, andimportantly,
the tap isopen.

End-NoteWith a diagnosis ofBenign VPC; the boy went home with no medicines.

He has privately promised to me not to eat vegetables and continue toplay PUBG.

But I am sure he would outgrow all of them over time. All kids do.
