Q1         WhenArjuna can fight without a chariot, Ram and Lakshman can also
fight withoutchariots, then what happened to Karna, the so-called best archer,
that hestopped fighting and took off the wheel?

A1          Skanda Veera A studentof Indian knowledge September 4, 2020

Rama-Ravana was a strict duel. In Mahabharata there were groupengagements which
were not against norms. Not just Karna or Arjuna, even Shalyaas a general was
engaged in a group battle. General usually has protectors ofsides and wheels,
and they are usually well known warriors themselves. So ifKarna was in a
position to retrieve the wheel it means his associated warriors, helpers were
all neutralized or disarmed and Karna the general was isolated. The moment that
happens, the army has already lost its war. General is supposedto be protecting
the army and guiding it. If he has no protectors or guards, and if he can be
rendered helpless the general and army are collapsing.

So Karna having to retrieve the wheel means much more than whether he canfight
from the ground or not.

Coming to the personal aspect, what Arjuna and Rama-Lakshmana had andwhat Karna
lacked was atma bala. He depended on others for his self respect, for his
confidence, for his ability to perform. He was not an inward lookingman who
depended on his own mind and abilities but looked for external factorsto align.
Weapons or charioteer or chariot.

The strange fact is Karna being brought up by a royal charioteer. Yetlooks out
for a charioteer. Even when the charioteer gauges the movement of theenemy and
warns of a missing target, Karna leaves arrow as is and missesArjuna's head. He
has no spare chariots in the time of crisis, and he is leftpulling up stuck
wheels.

What this tells us: Karna did not respect his foster father's professionand did
not understand its importance. He only respected the fact that he wasbrought up
by Adiratha. He did not therefore, invest in that skill and did notderive any
benefits of that skill.

Rama and Arjuna both learned and mastered chariot driving, because it
isessential for archers to be able to gauge mobile targets, to navigate better
inthe field, to fight while driving on occasions. They derived the benefits
ofthe skill because they respected it, and did not have any situation where
theywere in want of that skill.

Q2         Howdid humankind survive without fire before it was 'invented'?

A2          Matt Riggsby MAArchaeological Studies, Boston University Fri

Fire was invented about 1.8 million years ago, about 1.5 million yearsbefore
humankind, strictly speaking, came to exist. The species that discoveredfire
was Homo erectus, not long after they developed from their predecessorHomo
habilis. When we finally came on the scene about 300,000 years ago, it wasas
the product of a million and a half years of evolution which involved
theavailability of fire, and we as a species have never been without it.

So how did Homo habilis survive without fire? Probably by living muchlike our
close cousins the chimpanzees. They probably ate a lot of fruit andleaves,
grinding them with much heavier, stronger jaws than ours, and nibbledon insects
now and again

Nope. Lord Hari himself gave the answer.

merit of that disposition of mine)let Abhimanyu's son, who is borndead, revive!
Never hath a misunderstanding arisen between me and my friendVijaya. Let this
dead child revive by that truth! As truth and righteousnessare always
established in me, let this dead child of Abhimanyu revive (by themerit of
these)! As Kansa and Kesi have been righteously slain by me, let thischild
revive today by that truth!' After these words were uttered by Vasudeva, that
child, O foremost one of Bharata's race, became animate and begangradually to
move, O monarch.'

Q5  Why didn'tKunti tell her 5 sons that Karna was their elder brother early?

A5   ivya Singh Designer at Crux(2013–present)June 14

because she promised her best freind that she will not open her mouth ,she will
hide everything related to her past , in order to save Karna and herimage in
front of the king Pandav.

Q6         Whenboth husband and wife are working after marriage and living with
the husband'sfamily, my mother-in-law told me to buy her clothes. What should I
do? Is itright to spend your salary on in-laws?

A6          Bhuvana Rameshwar -marriedfor three decades Fri

My mil did not have any big demands. Actually she didn't buy new clothesas that
generation lived with just enough of everything not like mine or yourswherein
we get new clothes at the drop of a hat.

Now I buy my own clothes but I also get sari or dress gifts often from myson
and dil. I tell them not to give me silk sarees. Sometimes I myself choosethe
cotton dresses I want through amazon and they order them for me.

Yet we used to gift our mil sarees for festivals, birthdays or for ourextended
family gatherings. She wore only old saris at home so I persuaded herto wear
all her silk sarees and use them , not to keep it for others or handthem over
to her daughter. I sighted the example of my own grandmothers whowore only
kanchipuram silk at home. Those home wear ones do have too much ofzari, are
lighter in weight and washable at home. I think they are good qualitysilk. In
fact those silk sarees got better after each wash. Such was therequality those
days.

I always gifted my mil simple silk saris, sober colours, light weightones so
that she wore them at home or for a visit. And I asked her to wear andtear them
by good use, not to store or give to others or me later.

I have regularly ironed her clothes after a wash and even stitched
herpetticoats in my sewing machine. It is very satisfying to do things for
othersespecially inlaws.

If we gave her good, bright silk sarees she usually stocked them to giveaway to
her daughter or returned it to the same dil after some years ! May beshe wore
it once of twice, that's all. Some of her dils joked to me that theygave her
their personal favourite colours knowing very well it would eventuallycome back
to the giver one day!

So getting her clothes, sarees, gifts with your full heart either fromyour
money or husband's is a good thing to do. Involve children too in thisshopping
for them to learn the art of giving. If she is not satisfied or cribsthen ask
her what she wants or skip one giving session promptly.

Q7         Whydid Goddess Lakshmi choose to have Lord Vishnu as her consort,
instead of LordBrahma or Lord Shiva, when she came out of the ocean during the
samudramanthan?

A7          Bhawesh Bhattarai Livesin ItahariSat

Because she is eternal consort of Vishnu. She was with Vishnu even
beforeChurning the ocean. This is how Lord Vishnu looked like when seen by
lordBrahma and lord Shiva before churning the ocean.

कौस्तुभाभरणां लक्ष्मीं बिभ्रतींवनमालिनीम्

He on his chest was carrying Kaustubha, Lakshmi devi and flower Garland.Srimad
Bhagavatam 8.6.6

And this is what Lakahmi ji did after appearing from the ocean.

निकटे तदुर: स्वधाम

She approached to the chest of lord Vishnu, which is her real resort.Srimad
Bhagavatam 8.8.24

Actually, she appeared from the ocean to bless Indra who lost all hisopulence
because he offended his Guru. After blessing Indra with opulence, shewent to
her original place, i.e chest of lord Vishnu.

Q8         InMahabharata, is it true that Draupadi has some special soft
corners for Arjunathan the other four Pandavas?

A8   Bharathi V Follow Student ofKMG/ BORIJune 16

She had immense love and respect for Arjuna, no question. Whether it wasless or
more than what she felt for others is a tricky question. How do wemeasure
love?? Is it possible to say that we love our mother more than ourfather or
love one sibling more than another?

If Draupadi had a special soft corner for the warrior who won her hand,it is
quite understandable too. If she showed partiality to him, then she wouldhave
been wrong but she never did.

Q10              Whywasn't evolution thought of earlier?

A10        Claire Jordan Worked atNational Health Service (NHS)Sat

Improved transport for civilians. People had had a vague idea aboutevolution
for a couple of thousand years, but Wallace and Darwin were able tocollect very
firm evidence for evolution, and which enabled them to refine thetheory about
what powered it, because they were able to travel - Darwin to theGalapagos and
Wallace to New Guinea.

Q12              Whatis the scope of M.D. (Radiodiagnosis) in India?

A12        R.K. Shwetabh PediatricSpecialist at Government of Odisha
(2020–present)August 17, 2020

My wife has done DMRD (2014-2016),has done SR ship in DDU(Delhi), thenpvt
practice for about 1 Yr and is secondary DNB (Radio Diagnosis) residentnow. So
I can give you a fair idea about its scope.

There are two types of options after M. D. /DNB Radiology

1.Join any govt hospital. Get fixed salary. Few states allow pvt practicealso,
so if you give few hours to it then its good. But this is less preferredoption
for maximum candidates.

2. Do pvt practice. This thing is booming. With the advent of evidencebased
medicine, maximum doctors want radiological investigations done
beforetreatment. The starting salary of radiologist is 1.5–2 lakh if he does
USG andXray only daily for 4–5 hr. There can be fixed salary or you can agree
on sharebased system. In share based system radiologist gets 25-33% of total
cost ofinvestigation. So if a USG costs 1000 rs than radiologist will get
250–350 rs.Similarly in higher investigation like MRI, CT scan.

The advantage od radiology is that the starting salary is very good inrespect
to other branches.

A radiologist who can handle all modalities i. e. USG, X ray, CT, MRI caneasily
earn 3 lakh per month in a centre doing all investigations by giving 6–8hr.

So,the positive points of radio are early settlement, almost noemergency,
chances of violence less, more like a corporate job.

But the downside is that firstly, Radio Diagnosis is still considered aspara
clinical by few people and the income does not rises above 4–5 lakh ingeneral
per month where as in other branches if your practice is going goodthan only
sky is the limit.
