Thanks a lot for sharing. Reading is healthy and helping students with the
books to refer and learn and take notes is yeoman service. Two things must
be made compulsory in India; 1 buying all types of books , other than below
-par{below par to be qualified by the best educated and not by political
animosity} in all libraries; and 2 making the students members
compusory ,membership being made only in library nearest to their
residences. And as in the USA if marks awarded for the books read and
transcripted as an essay, long fine knowledge would cherish the earth.
HOW TO READ BOOKS

like a body without a soul.” ... “Good friends, good *books*, and a sleep
This Vidya, through the medium, occurs in the Chhandogyopanishad, VI. 2.

studied the scriptures and has not been a good brāhmin’. Śvetaketu
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/shvetaketu#hinduism> went to his
teacher’s house at the age of twelve. After studying all the Vedas
<https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/vedas#hinduism>, he returned home
when he was twenty-four, having become very serious and vain, and thinking
himself to be a great scholar.
In the beginning O son, this was mere Existence, one only without a
second. Regarding this some others say at first this was mere
non-existence, one alone without a second. From that non-existence proceeds
existence. But verily, O son, how can this be? How can existence come from
non-existence? Hence, O son, this was existence only in the beginning, one
alone without a second.
From non-existence existence cannot come out, for, even non-existence is
an existence, a being. As regards the sentence in the Taittiriya Upanishad
which says that existence came from non-existence, it is explained that
here non-existence refers to the state of Avyaktam where the manifold world
does not exist and from which the existence of the world is evolved. That
is Vyakta and avyakta are status of Vyatka and when seen existence seems to
appear whereas, to that one only, all existed, including the avyaktha with
HIM. This later became the Prakrithi Maya. All that appeared as the
existence is Maya. In continuation of this, Uddalaka asserts the great
dictum of identity, “Tat Tvam Asi”, That thou art.
All the Vidyas lead one from the unreal to the Real, from darkness to
Light, from mortality to Immortality. They lead the soul from the
Moola-Ajnana to the highest Brahman either through Krama-Mukti or
Sadyo-Mukti. Sri Shankaracharya says in his Brahma-Sutra-Bhashya that even
those who go to Saguna-Brahman (through Vidya-Upasanas) will ultimately go
to Nirguna-Brahman. {hence only I say all trimurtis merge in Brahmam in
Pralayam and therefore the nonexistent form, avyaktha in existence. }
It is a settled matter that those who through Perfect Knowledge have
dispelled all mental darkness and are devoted to the Eternally perfect
Nirvana do not return. And as those also who rely on the knowledge of the
Saguna-Brahman in the end have recourse to that Nirvana, it follows that
they also do not return. (Brahma-Sutra-Bhashya: IV. 4. 22). Athatho Brahma

The best part of Birthrhari I like is his assertion of education and
intelligence.
*1. *Before you can read, you must learn how. You must push yourself to
interact with meaningless lines and squiggles until they transform into
stories, characters, and ideas. Reading is an exercise in perseverance, in
which you constantly challenge yourself. *2. *For brief moments of time,
books release us from the constraints of our own reality. *3.*While reading
does not mean that you’ll agree with different perspectives, it does offer
you the opportunity to understand them. *4. *It reminds us of who we are,
where we are and how we came here. 5 Reading, like exercise, offers a
safe, healthy and productive replacement for negative thinking. It gives
your mind a safe place to rest until you regain the strength you need to
overcome your obstacles. 6 Books provide a stable source of companionship
during the times that you feel the only person you can count on is
yourself. 7 Reading gives the purpose, helps to persevere through
difficulty and unlocks parts of themselves they didn’t even know existed.
It leaves one alive.
“Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to
be chewed and digested; that is, some books are to be read only in parts;
others to be read, but not curiously; and some few are to be read wholly,
and with diligence and attention.” ― Francis Bacon.
Hence by starting reading initially one runs through all the pages
and concludes having read. Where the mind runs faster than the eyes,
skipping of the irrelevance are selected to scrap. Where the thoughts unite
with the mind, at times even 500 pages is read in a couple of hours. K R
