Q1         During my ultrasound, mydoctor would not let me see the screen. Why?

A1          D. David Burk UltrasoundTechnologist (1989–present)Updated August
7, 2020.

I have been an ultrasound tech for almost 30 years. There could beseveral
reasons why they did not have the screen positioned so you could see.

Some techs do not want to continually answer the patient’s question of“What is
that?” The techneeds to be focused on what they are looking at so as not to
miss any pathology. If the tech misses pathology then the doctor reading it does
not see it.Ultrasound is very user-dependent and if the tech does not image
pathologybecause they are distracted, then the patient will go untreated for
saidpathology.

Sometimes it is ergonomics. Performing ultrasound creates a lot ofrepetitive
stress injuries in the shoulder, neck, wrist, and back. It may seemeasy to just
rub a transducer on someone's belly but, in reality, it is not.For some,
turning the screen even slightly exacerbates already sore and tiredjoints.

Patients can sometimes pick up when we are taking imagesof something that is
not right. The average person may not understand everything they are looking
at,however, if we are measuring a large mass on an organ it can be quite
obvious.Technologists are not to reveal pathology to patients, and if the
patient askswhat we are measuring, we do not want to lie and say it is nothing
or revealwhat it really is. That is the doctor’s responsibility. And, despite
doing thisfor many years I can sometimes be wrong about something that may or
may not betrue pathology. That is why we work closely with the radiologist to
discussscans and come to a collaborated consensus. That is one reason I like
thisfield, because I am constantly learning.

If it happens again you can always ask why you can't see the screen. Ibet most
will say because they need to concentrate on what they are doing whichis a good
thing. You want your ultrasound tech to do the best job possible.

My note- Once I had to take twoultra sound scan with oneweek difference.
Certain items were slightly different which might not be. Myfamily doctor told-
Scan report is based on certain parametres. Hence there canbe slight variations
 which need not bebothered.

Q2         Why didn't Pandavas spareVikarn who spoke on behalf of Draupadhi
opposing Duryodhan? Did Krishna haveanything to do with this? Was this the
reason of introduction of Krishna's 2version and Mahabharat 2 War (World War 3)?

A2          Kavana N Lives inBangalore, Karnataka.Tue

Bhima was ready to spareVikarna due to his Dharmic nature in Sabha in spite of
his vow to kill all the100 brothers .

When Vikarna faced Bhima, He was asked to move away as Bhima didn't wishto kill
him. But Vikarnatold it was duty for both to fight and he will continue to
fight for hisbrother Duryodhana. So, Bhima had to kill a person standing with
Adarma.

Bhima felt sad and also wept for Vikarna. He had to kill him out of nochoice.

Krishna had nothing to do withit.

Q4         If sodium explodes whenintroduced to water, why doesn’t salt
explode, but rather dissolve?

A4          Mike Jones Over 30 yearsin the technology industry. June 24

One electron.

Elemental sodium is made up of a bunch of atoms that really want to giveaway an
electron. If you dump a chunk of it into water all the atomsimmediately start
trying to give that pesky electron to the nearby oxygenatoms, displacing the
hydrogen they’re bonded to. This results in a lot ofnewly positively charged
ions crammed together, and the electrical repulsion can cause anexplosion.

Sodium chloride (salt), on the other hand, is an ionic molecule where the
chlorine atom hasalready strongly grabbed onto that outer electron of the
sodium atoms,so there’s no transition from neutral to positively charged ions
when it’sdumped in water.

Q5         What is the best lifeadvice you would give?

came out, I drank tea andate within half an hour, but I didn't feel any
complications? Is it safe?

A6          Thyaga Rajan FormerFormer Private Secretary (1980–2009)Sat

As long as you do not manifest or observe any symptoms or side effects,be rest
assured that you are safe and healthy. However, do not share or motivate others
to follow yoursteps as the same can spell trouble to others.

My note- Normally doctors ornurses ask about breakfast taken or not, any
diseases/medical report, oxygen in blood  and pulse test, BP test  etc   before
vaccination(My experience inHindumission Hospital in Tambaram, Chennai)

Q7         Why are the doctors andstaff working in government hospitals so rude?

A7          Tushar Joshi A Doctor,an avid reader, and a passionate writer. Sun

Because the expectations from doctors in government setting - is other worldly.

Let me tell you a story to explain this.

The Case of The Late Lunch

There was a man who visited the government offices in the hopes ofsubmitting
some of his documents and claiming a benefit as per a new governmentscheme.
This was the 4thtime he had visited the office. Earlier attempts to make
contact with theperson-in-charge had failed.

The babu(the real person holding power in govt offices) saw him sittingnear the
gate to the office. He cast a rude glance at the man as if to mock hisdesperate
attempt to get something that he actually deserved.

Even though the men was enraged, he knew that it was his job that was tobe done
and so he kept mum. Hours passed as he waited for his number to come. When his
chance actually came, theBabu announced that the official would be having an
early lunch.

It was 12:30 PM. Official lunch time was 1-2 PM. He was dejected as hesaw the
Babu carry hot samosas in the office.

When the lunch time was over and he thought he would get his chance, thebabu
announced that the previous papers he presented had one slight mistake inthem
and he would need to correct them and come again. Enraged as he was, he again
keptmum.

As he was coming back to hiscar at 4 PM, he fell from the stairs and was rushed
to the nearby governmenthospital.

After waiting for 10 minutes in the grossly overfilled OPD, as his numberwas
about to come, he heard the doctor speak to the patient before him-

‘I would be taking a 15 minutes break for lunch. The doctor who wassupposed to
start from 2 PM had some emergency and I am filling in for him. Wewill continue
after that.’

He couldn't control it any longer. Thundering towards the doc, he said ina loud
voice- ‘ How canyou be so rude and inconsiderate? Here I am waiting for 10
minuteswith what could possibly be a fracture, and you are thinking about
lunch?’

This is the real life scenario- that every doctor faces and the scenariothat
every citizen of India thinks is their birth right to create, in ahospital
under government setup.

A citizen who would piss their pants if a Babu of a government setupscolds them
in front of 20 people, thinks it is quite normal to expect doctorsto be on
their toes all the time. As happened in the story, no citizen objects to
waiting hours, nocitizen objects to getting ridiculed and humiliated in
government officesbecause- its their work that's on the line.

But a 10 minute delay or seeing a doc spend 5 minutes on the phone( evenif they
may be off duty) enrages the citizen to such an extent that they areready to
call doctors rude and inconsiderate.

If they could understand thesituation of doctors who have been carrying the
burden of a dead healthcaresystem on their shoulders, they would know that we
are not rude because it's our nature or that we want to belike that

It's just that we all are destined to have a late lunch!

Q9         What is your opinionabout LIC in India?

A9          Gopalkrishna Vishwanath TrueIndian, who feels at home anywhere in
India.June 25  (271 words in this answer)

I have a high opinion about LIC.

Now I am too old for an LICpolicy and also don’t need itanymore but during my
younger days and right up to to the age of 70, I was always covered byan LIC
insurance policy.

My first policy was for Rs 10K taken in early 1970 when I was still astudent
and my parents paid the premium till I started earning.

When I took a loan for building my house in 1985, I immediately took outa
policy to cover that loan amount.

I later took another policy to cover my loan when I purchased anapartment.

I have never been withoutaccident insurance at any time in my life.

All my policies have matured and I am now availing of Pensions from LIC.

I have never had any unpleasant experience with LIC at any time in mylife. All
my claims were settled promptly.

I have never argued with those who told me that other forms of investmentare
far better than investing in LIC. That was because I was not investing in LIC
tomake money. I was investing in it for the protection of mydependents.

I recommend LIC to everyone who has just begun his career and has
startedearning. The benefits are the best and the premiums are the lowest when
youtake an insurance policy at a young age.

My faith in LIC is so strongthat I had no hesitation inresponding to a survey
conducted by an MBA student.

If you wish you too can respond to this survey. It will take just aminute or
two.
