Q1              Whereis there more salt found in the water?

A1                       Subhajyoti Moitra, livesin Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh,
IndiaAnswered Sat

If I haveunderstood your question right, then I will like to tell you that the
highestsalt concentration of salt in water is in the Dead Sea.

Normally sea waterhas  3.5% of salt mixed in it. Where asthe salt percentage in
Dead sea water is around 31.5%. which is 10 times morethan normal.

Q2              Whichmistake did you do while eating in a restaurant?

A2              Shaunak Bhattachharje Visited 16Indian States | 7 Countries | 3

When I was inJaipur, I wanted to try a Rajasthani Thali, an authentic one. I
always do thiswhen visiting a new place, to try the local food over there.

So I found thisnice restaurant that had good reviews on Zomato, the name of
which I have sadlyforgotten though. It was near the Station area, that I
remember. Anyway, so Ihad ordered their Rajasthani Thali which cost Rs 260.

I probably should have seen the photos of what came withthe thali and not just
have ordered it without knowing what all came with it.

Because the thali was a humongous meal and Iwas a single person. It came with
four pieces of Bajra Roti and Missi Rotieach, Kair Sangri Sabzi, Dal Tadka,
Gatte ki Subzi, Chini Boora with Jaggery,Paneer Butter Masala, Jeera Rice, Dal
Bati, Salad, Mirchi ki Tipore, Papad,Rajasthani Fruit Churma and Buttermilk to
chug it all with.

The meal was fit for a king. Halfway through the meal, Iregretted ordering this
thali. I felt that itshould be shared by at least 2 or 3 people. It took me
around an hour tocomplete all this, sort of force-fed myself because I hate
wasting food. I hadheard great reviews of their Special Lassi too and my plan
was to try theirLassi after the meal, which obviously didn’t happen.

I decided to walkback to my hotel which was 25 minutes away from that place
thinking that theexercise would help me with digestion. I was so full from my
lunch that I didnot have anything for dinner that day.

Q3              Whyare Japanese roofs curved?

A3              Aside from cultural and aestheticreasons, Japanese roofs, and
East Asian roofs in general, are curved as acompromise to a compromise to a
compromise.

Yeah, that’s threelayers of “compromises.” Here’s the breakdown:

1st Compromise: Wooden Buildings

So let’s start fromthe beginning. As you probably have noticed, East Asian
buildings were builtpredominately out of wood, from the load-bearing pillars to
the wooden walls tothe paper windows. After all, wood is readily available
(i.e. cheap), has greatweight to strength ratio, and is easy to cut and shape.

However, wood isnot perfect, which is why it is the first “compromise.” One of
the major consis that wood is not as weather-resistant as other materials such
as stone orclay. In particular, high-humidity and/or heavy precipitation will
cause woodto rot and warp. Thus, as useful as wood is, using it as your primary
construction material means youhave to engineer a way to keep your building as
dry as possible.

2nd Compromise: Extended Eaves

Let’s say you’rewearing a pair $2,000 Gucci pants out on what seemed to be a
sunny day, butthen all of a sudden, it starts to pour. So, you rush to the
nearestconvenience store and have to decide between two umbrellas: one of
thosemini-umbrellas, or a full-sized one. On any other day, you’d probably
preferthe cheaper, more portable mini-umbrella, but mini-umbrellas will almost
nevercover your legs. The full-sized umbrella may be unwieldy to carry around
andwill cost more, but if your priority is to protect your pants from the
rain,you’ll want the bigger umbrella.

The same exactconcept goes for East Asian buildings. If the roof is the
umbrella, thebuilding itself, especially the wooden base, is the Gucci pants.
In order tokeep the wooden components as dry as possible, the eaves of a roof
(i.e. thepart that extends away from the exterior walls of a building) need to
gofarther out. Sure, if rain fell exactly vertically down, you probably can
getaway with short eaves, but rain tends to fall at an angle due to
wind, sometimes at an extreme angle in bad storms during a typhoon.

However, extendingthe eaves has a number of cons. For one, like the full-size
umbrella, it costsmore. And, more relevant to this question, an enlarged roof
may block rain, butit also blocks something else: sunlight. Having sunlight
shining through yourwindow may seem like a simple luxury, but before air
conditioning and heating, sunlight was extremely important inkeeping a building
warm and dry, especially during the colder months.

So, East Asianbuildings started to incorporate a new design element, the third
compromise…

3rd Compromise: Curved Eaves

To recap, we nowhave a wooden building with an “oversized” roof with long eaves
that blocksrain, which is good, but also sunlight, which is not-so-good.

So, how do you keepthe good aspects of this roof, while fixing the bad? The
solution is to curve the eaves upward, angling them in such a way to maximize
direct sunlight. The fact that the eavesare angled the highest at the corners
aren’t a coincidence, either. AsPythagoras will tell you, the corners of the
roofs are the farthest points fromthe building, which means they needed to be
angled the highest in order forsunlight to hit the building.

Interestingly, there is a very visible correlation between the extremity of the
curve of abuilding’s roof with its geographic latitude. Why? Because at lower
latitudescloser to the Equator, the Sun travels higher up in the sky, which
means theeaves need to be curved higher to allow direct sunlight into the
building.Meanwhile, at higher latitudes in the northern regions — i.e. Japan,
Korea, northern China — the Sun travels lower in the sky, meaning the roofs do
notneed to curve as much to allow direct sunlight.

Forbidden City inBeijing (northern China):

Korean Palace:

Now, in case you’rewondering why this is a “compromise,” again, it’s just the
cost of it all.Curved eaves are obviously more difficult to build and require
more materials.

However, it doesseem like an elegant solution to all the major problems I
listed above.Ultimately, this became a design feature in and of itself, one
that defines aregion or country’s style and philosophies. It’s honestly a very
interestingaspect of East Asian architecture to discuss, and I hope this answer
canprovide some insight in the more scientific (?) reasons behind it.

Q4              Whathappens to salt in water in a warm place after a few days?

A4              Malcolm Sargeant, Worked in watertreatment industry for 40+
yearsAnswered October 31, 2017

The water slowlyevaporates and as the salt gets more and more concentrated it
begins tocrystallize, the crystals will be seen a tiny cubes of pure salt.

2ND ANSWER Phillip Abbott, The bucket isnot half empty. It is larger than
needed.AnsweredJuly 29, 2020

The waterevaporates, and the salt remains as crystals.

If there is enoughwater that it does not all evaporate, then nothing happens to
the salt. It isvery stable and will not change spontaneously, even when
provided with heat andmoisture.

Q5              Whatare some interesting facts which are not commonly known?

A5              15 facts and the 15th one is veryimportant.

1 If Gas cylinders don't have holes at the bottomthen, suppose if there’s water
at the bottom of cylinders, it might lead to rusting and the gas might leak.

2 Since certain molecules react to light, the bottleof syrups that contain
photosensitive molecules is colored in brown/amber toavoid reaction of them
with sunlight and UV rays so that the syrup wouldn't getexpired soon
(Photodegradation).

3 The below gif is an example of the Wagon Wheel Effect

The camera capturesseveral images per second or in other words frames per
second (fps). Whenrevolution per second and fps are equal then our eyes/the
camera can’t see theactual movement and this causes the illusion. And, if the
revolution per secondis slightly less than fps, then the movement seems tobe
reversed.

4 Why do some insects fly around bulbs, lights?

This is due to thePhototaxis effect

Positivephototactic - insects are attracted towards light and

Negativephototactic - the opposite eg: cockroaches

During thenighttime, insects tend to believe lights are the way for their
direction. Theyuse the moonlight to navigate in a constant direction, and angle
since, themoon is far away. But they get confused when the angle frequently
changes asthe bulb is near to them and so they fly around it.

Insects are usuallyactive at night time and they move around light for warmth.

Some say insects assume lights as flowers.Theseare just theories

That’s why incertain places people use light traps to attract and kill them.
blue, purplewavelengths are more attracted to insects.

5 Why do clocks and watches have ‘QUARTZ’ written onthem?

Quartz is a crystaland it contains silicon and oxygen atoms.

As it was oldclocks couldn't calculate the accurate time, the use of quartz
gave them asolution.        How?, Quartz starts tovibrate 32, 768 times per
second when electricity is passed (frequency of thequartz - 32, 768 Hz).

flipflop is adevice in clock/watch which reduces the frequency by 2.

A watch totally has15 flip-flops which finally reduces to 1 Hz and that makes
the second handmove.

Companies print‘QUARTZ’ in clocks/watches to tell people that their products
can calculatetime accurately.

6 Newspapers have four coloredcircles/stars/hearts (color bars) because of the
color code they use…

RGB - Red, Green, Blue - is used for digitalmedia.

CYMK - Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, Key (black) -used in print media.

This colorcombination is used when the digital article is printed in a
newspaper.

Since companiesprint more newspapers (50000 - 80000 papers per hour), the color
bar is printedat the bottom for the sensor to detect the ink density and the
alignment.

7A double rainbow is formed due to doublerefraction and double reflection of
sunlight in water droplets and the colorswould be reversed.

8 Our body temperature gets higher to fight againstviruses/bacteria. It is
similar to boiling the water to kill micro-organisms.The highest temperature
recorded was 115° F (46° C).

9Nearly 4kg of skin cells die every year. Most of thedust would be your dead
cells in your bed.

10 Tear a sticky note like you tear a book page andpaste it side wards for
longer life. (is this a fact?)

11 Spaces below the public toilet doors are torescue if any person inside falls
unconscious and for ventilation.

12 Book pages have margins at the sides so as notto lose the content/letters
when rats bite the edges of papers (hmm 🤔),and a margin at the center so that
the letters wouldn’t bend inside while webind.

13 Bananas are curvy in shape because of Auxins(a growth hormone) present in
them. They’re attracted both by gravity and lightand due to the domination of
phototropism and auxins, they bend.

14 Kings and references:

Spade - king David(Israel)        clubs - Alexander theGreat (Greek)
Diamond - JuliusCaeser or Augustus (Roman)        Heart -Charlemagne (king of
Franks, Lombards and Romans)

15 And that IMPORTANT fact; You’rebeautiful and everyone loves you including me.
