Q1              Can water evaporate from a sealedplastic bottle when kept in
sunlight for months?

A1          2 Answers     Abhishek Yashodhara Shettigar, B.E, MTech Mechanical
Engineering& Industrial Pollution Control, Manipal Institute Of
Technology(2015)Answered February 2, 2017

Ideally no.Practically possible if not air tight. But you can come to know the
waterdroplets condensed near top portion after day and night evaporation and
condensationcycles, if u place the bottle in area of sunlight contact, due to
temperaturevariations. Normally carbonated (soda) plastic bottles are
manufactured in mindnot to lose the gas from it. So it is obivious that water
as a liquid will notvapour out from the bottle if its sealed/airtight properly.

2ND ANSWER Akshay Devikar, knows MarathiAnswered February 1, 2017

Its sealed plasticbottle and it also has some amount of air at the top. Due to
increase intemperature the captured air will expand and try to come out of
bottle forsure. Moreover, its not air sealed.

Q2              Is eating apples a good way tostay regular with a person’s
digestive system?

A2              Ken Saladin Human anatomy &physiology textbook author Thu

Apples are anexcellent benefit to the digestive system, not just for their
nutrients but fortheir fiber content. Dietary fiber helps to promote normal
colonic motility andminimize constipation, diverticulosis, and diverticulitis.
Even though it’s notdigested or absorbed into the body, it also helps to lower
one’s bloodcholesterol and LDL levels. An excess of fiber, however, can create
a risk ofiron, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus deficiencies.

Q3              Are sprouted potatoes safe forconsumption? Are there toxins in
sprouted potatoes? Can this sprouting beprevented in potatoes?

A3                                 Nandhini   Digital Marketer (2020–present)Thu

When potatoes arestored for long period of time it begins to sprout. As it
sprouts it createsconfusion whether it is safe to eat or not.

The simple answeris yes. “I eat sprouted potatoes” and it is okay to have
sprouted potatoesafter removing the sprouts in it. But in some cases, sprouted
potatoes are notsafe to eat and It is considered as expired food.

WHY SPROUTEDPOTATOES MAY BE DANGEROUS TO EAT:

Potatoes are richsource of glycoalkaloid compounds like solanine and chaconine.

Glycoalkaloids mayoffer various health benefits when it is taken in small
amounts. Glycoalkaloidshas antibiotic properties and controls and lowers the
blood sugar andcholesterol level. But when you intake high amount of
glycoalkaloids it becomesas toxic.

When potatosprouts, the glycoalkaloids content in the potato begins to rise.
Eatingpotatoes that have sprouted can cause you to ingest excessive amount of
solanineand chaconine compounds. Within few hours after sprouted potatoes the
symptomsmay typically appear, sometimes it may take a day. Eating spouted
potatoesduring pregnancy may also increase the risk of birth defects.

ARE THERE ARETOXINS? HOW TO REMOVE IT?

Potatoes arenatural source of glycoalkaloids compound, which is particularly
concentratedin potato’s leaves, flowers, eyes and sprouts. Like sprouting –
greening, physical damage and bitter taste are the other three signs that a
potato’sglycoalkaloid content may have risen radically.

Thereforediscarding the sprouts, eyes, green skin and bruised parts from the
potatomakes it safe to eat. Peeling and frying may also help to reduce
theglycoalkaloids levels in potato while boiling, baking and microwaving seems
tohave little effects.

But there is stillconfusion whether these practices are sufficient to protect
you fromglycoalkaloids levels. For this reason National Capital Poison center –
alsoknown as poison control – suggests that sprouted potatoes are safe best to
eatwhen it is tossed.

HOWTO AVOID SPROUTING IN POTATOES:

Potatoes areusually begins to sprout when it is kept for long time. So avoid
stockpilingand buy them when you have plans to use them.

Remove the damagedones when storing the potatoes and make sure it is full dry
before storing themin a cool, dry or dark place may also reduce the chance of
sprouting.

Storing potatoeswith onions should also be avoided. Storing them together may
increase theprocess of sprouting.

BOTTOM LINE:

Sproutedpotatoes contain high levels of glycoalkaloids compounds, which can be
toxic tohuman when it is eaten in high amount. Eating sprouted potatoes can
cause yourseveral illnessesfrom stomach upset toheart and nervous system
problem.

They may alsoincrease the risk of birth defects. Even if you can reduce the
glycoalkaloidslevels in sprouted potatoes by peeling, frying or removing
sprouts, its stillunclear that these methods are enough to protect you from
toxicity.

It is safe toavoid eating high amount of sprouted potatoes altogether until
more is known.

Q5              What are the health benefits ofadding ghee to chapati?

A5              Subramaniam Duraisamy IT Analyst August6

No benefits inparticular, apart from having a softy nature to the chappathi in
case you packit in a llunch box and eat it later.

There are threeways you can actually bake any Indian flat bread llike Roti,
Chappati, Paratha.

The first way is todirectly put it on the burner after pre-heating it on a tawa.

This will make surethat the chapathi puffs up soon and becomes soft enough. But
in this method-you must immediately consume the dish and not store it in a
hotpack if youprefer a soft chappathi.

Second way is toheat it on a tawa on low flame and wait for the chappathi to
become softnaturally. Ofcourse this chappathi will not be as soft as the first
one, butstill edible.

Third way is toslow cook in a tandoor over burning coal flames. This will
impart the flavourof the coal into the dish and be very traditional

When we are at homeand can immediately consume, there is no problem. But what
if we have to travelsomewhere and need it to be packed?. In that case we cannot
consume thechappathi immediately and thus put it in a hot pack.

Now the problemwith putting chappathi/ roti/ paratha in a hotpack is that the
steamprecipitates into water droplets and whenever water combines with atta,
thelatter becomes hard. And a hardened chapathi is very unpleasant
experienceunless its supplemented with a really thick gravy subji. Imagine
eating ahardened chappatthi with dry vegetables subji..;-(Moot point is a hard
chapatiis a very unpleasant affair. Spreading ghee or butter on top of it has
threebenefits

It gives a glossyshine to the chappathi even after putting it in a hotpack. Hot
ghee or butterforms a thin film on the surface which prevents the hardening.

Hardened chapati isvery difficult to digest. Ghee helps in acting as a natural
lubricant and helpsin digestion. Ofcourse desi ghee from cow’s milk is what is
used invillages…;-)

For mix vegparathas, having butter and curd can help in complementing the
spiciness.

Q6              What is the most useful thing youknow that most people do in
the wrong way?

A6              Nidhi NarwalBotany is love! July23

Watering plants: Most of the people I have seen, who practice gardening, do it
in a wrong way.

Instead of wateringthe plant at its basal part (in soil), they pour water on
its leaves only.

Even if you pourwater on its leaves, then too the plant is going to uptake
water through itsroot only. So watering on leaves serves nothing much in favour
of plant. It'sjust cool the lamina of leaf and the plants temporarily looks
fresh, nothingmore than that.

Also, 99 percent ofwater that plants uptake, get transpired. Only 1 percent of
water is used inphotosynthesis.

Now you may ask, if99 percent of water that plant uptake get transpired, then
why do a plantactively or passively absorbs that?

That's because, theamount of water that plant uptake through roots, contains
vital minerals in it(uptake from soil). Those are required by plant for its
basic metabolism.Transpiration pull helps those minerals to reach at buds,
leaves, shoot apexetc, through veins (xylem tissues).

A mustard plant absorbs water equal to its own weight inabout 5 hours to uptake
minerals from the soil!

So, keep this point in your mind while watering yourplants. It's just basic
science, you know!

Q8              Why does the microwave rotate thefood being cooked?

A8              Martin BayerChef (1994–present)Fri

In the rear of amicrowave there is a device called a magnetron.

The magnetron useselectricity to create a flow of electrons that in turn
transmits microwavesinto the cooking chamber via an antenna.

In the front of amicrowave is a glass door.

The microwaves bounce around inside of the microwave’sinterior willy nilly.
There’s really no controllingthem once they're fired into the microwave’s
cooking chamber. Since all of thataction is coming from the rear of the device,
the food is spun on a turntableto help it get cooked more evenly.

Normally theatmosphere has oxygen, hydrogen nitrogen and many minor gases. If
your home isnear a factory, pollutants will be more. If your home in the centre
ofagricultural fields, pollutants will be less. if your home is on the top
ofhills, atmosphere will be totally different.

If you are in acity pollutants will be more, atmosphere will have lesser oxygen
due toconsumption by many as you feel in a cine theatre. Generally oxygen
contentwill be more in the gases entering the home

Ok, what type ofpipe do you have? Copper, iron PVC pex? What is making it fall
off ? I havenever heard of that.

What the best youcan do is fix the pipe irrespective of they type. The
expenditure of settingright the pipe is very less comparing to treat the huge
expense if the hotwater tap fall down and boiled water thrown out or sprinkle
or the tap itselffall only you. Understand tap is more hotter than water some
times
